John Hancock and Ann Thomas Lowery Serve Tennessee 4-H and FFA on the State Level |
Tennessee 4-H and FFA nurture young members to become strong, compassionate leaders prepared for future careers. Both Lowery and Hancock have been involved in both organizations since they were in grade school and were recently elected to FFA State Office.
It is an accomplishment to receive one of these honors, but few have held the prestigious roles at once. Both say 4-H and FFA complement each other well and work together to mold young leaders.

4-H gave Sarah Marie Smith an early opportunity to claim her voice, and the experience fueled a television career, a stint in elected office, a role as a court mediator and the creative license to thrive as an independent storyteller.

Check out one of Sarah Marie Smith's most recent projects – an interview-documentary film honoring Ben Powell, a longtime leader and influential figure in Tennessee 4-H and the University of Tennessee Extension System.

Tennessee 4-H History Displays Have New Permanent Home at State Fairgrounds |
After decades of planning and dreaming of an enduring exhibit documenting 4-H history, a permanent exhibit dedicated to Tennessee 4-H history now has a permanent home.
Located in the 4-H/FFA building at the Wilson County-Tennessee State Fair in Lebanon, the exhibit contains photos, artifacts and a timeline of Tennessee 4-H, but organizers are seeking items and photos from the 1960s and 1970s, Roundup uniforms, Congress sweaters, pins, programs from events, old photos, collectibles and more.
If you're interested in donating to the exhibit or curious if what you have is a good fit, send an email to 4H_History@utk.edu.

Meet 4-H Alum and Communications Professional Henry Kilpatrick |
Henry Kilpatrick has a successful 4-H career, including receiving his Vol State Award, meeting his future wife on a bus ride to a 4-H event and building a successful career – all with 4-H as the foundation beneath him. Today, Kilpatrick is the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Jackson State Community College, overseeing brand strategy and communications development for the college.
“One of the big things that we learned in 4-H was that there are so many opportunities, but if you don’t take them, you’re never going to get to experience them. That was a turning point for a lot of us in learning what leadership looks like.”
