Tell us about your best day at work.
I was a truck driver prior to driving passengers. My own commute only takes 12 minutes now compared to 40 minutes before the pandemic. I enjoy going to work. My job driving a UCSF shuttle is more like “guest services” than just driving. My riders are great people. I know all the routes and I tell my managers to put me wherever they need me the most. I say hi to all my passengers. They smile and they are pleasant. I very seldom have problems and there’s not as much traffic these days. Ridership is down, which gives me a better chance to connect and chat with people. I love my job!
What's your favorite work story?
I was driving the Red shuttle that goes between Mission Bay, Mission Center Building (MCB) and 16th & Mission BART (note: shuttle routes may have changed due to COVID) . We were going from Mission Bay to MCB and then we’d be on our way to BART. We were early because there was no traffic and there were only five passengers aboard. I asked if they were all going to BART, and they were, so I decided to take them straight to BART. They all cheered. I didn’t go out of route and I was able to get back to MCB in plenty of time for the next pickup. I’ve never seen five happier people!
