WHS High School Accreditation 2022-23

As shared thoughout the school year, Woodinville High School is participating in the voluntary Washington State Accreditation process. Coming up on Thursday, March 23 the process will culmunate with a site evaluation followed by a presentation at the state level later in the spring. 
  • This voluntary process takes place every 6 years, along with a 3-year check in, where we demonstrate that here at WHS we provide our students with a high quality and rigorous education.
  • Accreditation is an inquiry-based process, tightly aligned to our Strategic Action Plan, and the work we do at WHS. 
  • Accreditation is not only an internal review of how we are doing in meeting our goals, but also an external review process where we share our work and improvement plan with both a site evaluation review team and a state level review panel.

WHS “That 70s Tolo”
WHS Commons, Sat, April 1, 8-11 p.m.

This year the theme is "That 70s Tolo" and takes place on Saturday, April 1 from 8pm-11pm at the WHS Commons!

Tickets are on sale March 27-March 31 before school (7:50-8:20a), during Options, lunches, and after school (3:20-3:50p) at the WHS Cashier’s or Main Office, with debit/credit, cash, or check payable to WHS:
  • $15 w/ASB,
  • $20 w/o ASB & non-WHS Guests***
  • Tickets will also be on sale at the door (cash or check ONLY) for $25 (WHS students ONLY
Fines/Fees MUST be paid or cleared to purchase dance tickets! 

All students must have picture ID to enter the dance!

Students are expected to comply with current District, State, and Department of Health COVID protocols (masks optional).

***If WHS students want to invite a guest from another school, ONE guest is allowed per WHS student with the required paperwork in place by Friday, March 31. Please plan ahead, as the required Non-WHS Guest Authorization Form is required for each guest (with the guest’s principal’s signature and a WHS Admin signature) to purchase the $20 per guest ticket by 2nd lunch on Friday, March 31.

Guest forms will also be available outside ASB Room 101 and at the Main Office.

Students must bring the completed Non-WHS Guest Authorization Form when tickets are purchased. 

No guests at the door.

Please note: Transportation and before/after dance activities are not provided or sponsored by Woodinville High School or the Northshore School District. This includes any transportation/events including, but not limited to, limos, party buses, and boat excursions.

My First Formal 2023 - Tickets
"Through the Looking Glass"

The WHS Class of 2024 is so excited to host My First Formal this year (formally known as the Daddy Daughter Dance)!

The dance will take place on Saturday, March 25, from 6-8 p.m. It will be held at Woodinville High School in the Commons, and will feature live music, games and activities, food, and dancing! The theme is "Through the Looking Glass" and will feature a variety of fun "adventure in wonderland" activities and dancing for adults and children alike! 

Suggested age for children: 5-12, but all kids will be welcome!

Message from your WHS Counselors

Hi Falcon Families, 

Registration for next year, 2023-24!
Counselors will begin individual 1:1 meetings with freshmen this week. The purpose is to confirm their course requests, check their grad status and align their transcript with their post grad plan. Counselors will meet with sophomores the week of 3/20 and juniors the week of 3/27.

10th and 11th grade students who are interested in Running Start, please start by reading through the WHS RS website at https://woodinville.nsd.org/counseling/running-start. Counselors will begin meeting with interested RS students in April.

During the 1:1 registration meetings, counselors will be slower to respond to emails and voicemails. Please be patient with us. If you have not heard back and have an urgent matter, reach out to Counseling Office Manager, Roberta Porter at 425-408-7418 to get a message to your counselor.  

Seniors
As you are receiving and awaiting your college decisions, counselors are here to celebrate and process your mixed emotions (positive and negative) with you! You have all worked so hard to get to this point and we truly believe you will all do great things! Your college decisions do not define who you are as a student. We are here for you!

NHS Final Hours Submission

All final hours for National Honor Society members are due by 11:59 p.m. on March 24th, 2023. Students will upload documentation of at least 30 service hours total to the assignment on the NHS Schoology page. 10 of your hours must be in-school hours and only 6 of the in-school hours can be from donations. All other donations are community service hours. Please remember to submit ALL service hours for the year, including a resubmission of the hours submitted as your first 5 hours.

Students who do not upload their final hours using the correct form and supporting documentation will not be able to participate in the induction ceremony or receive a pin, certificate, or cords. Attendance at the induction ceremony is required to receive your certificate, pins, and cords and will be held at WHS on May 18th, 2023.

Seniors! Mark your calendars. There will be a Senior Class Meeting during Activity Tuesday on Tuesday, March 21 (10:55-11:30a) to learn about graduation, the Senior Timeline, Grad Night, and preliminary information about the June 13 Commencement Ceremony! (Running Start Seniors go to Commons.)

Seniors will also make nominations for the Class of 2023 student-selected senior Commencement speaker during this meeting!

Class of 2023: Jostens Commencement Announcement Order Distribution, Wed, 3/22, Commons, Both Lunches


Jostens will be at WHS on Wednesday, March 22 during both lunches in the Commons to distribute Commencement announcements that were ordered in the fall.

Be sure to make plans to pick items up that were ordered! Please note fines and fees must be paid or cleared to pick up the items.

If a senior is unable to be at school, a friend or relative can pick up the items; however, a signed note from the parent must be provided to Jostens. The individual picking up the items will be required to sign for them, relieving Jostens of responsibility if they should become lost or misplaced. As mentioned, fines and fees must be paid or cleared, as well.

Reduced or Waived Fees 2022-23


Available by logging into ParentVue and completing the steps in the Student Information Updates module

***Step-by-step instructions on how to submit the consent form in ParentVUE can be found in .pdf HERE.  An electronic step-by-step guide is also available on the district website.***

Please note: Part of the process when completing the consent form is families will first verify their information (address, phone, emergency contacts, etc.). The Consent form will appear after the race and preferred language questions. Parents/Guardians need to go through each page and verify information before reaching the consent form. The ParentVUE app on cell phones looks nearly identical to the computer version of ParentVUE for completing the online consent form.

If you qualify for free or reduced price meals, also apply for reduced or waived extra-curricular school fees pursuant to House Bill 1660 (that you may be eligible for) by completing that section of the Student Information Updates in ParentVue* on or after August 15 (see House Bill 1660 details below). 

Completing the fee waiver form in ParentVUE* will allow your student's free and reduced status to be shared with those administering extra-curricular activities at our school or within the district, thus being able to waive or reduce certain fees. 

Consent must be given each school year and does not carry forward from last school year. Instructions on how to submit the consent form in ParentVUE can be found on the district website.

Once the Consent is submitted through the Student Information Updates portal in ParentVUE, it takes a minimum of 24 hours for the waived fees to show up in TouchBase.

Student Celebrations!

Four Journalism Club students--Keanu Thakaloth, Jillian Baer, Ava Wahl and Avery Cherry--attended the Washington Journalism Education Association Spring Conference (J Days!) on Saturday, March 4 at Montlake Terrace High School. 

In addition to attending some awesome sessions on Journalism topics, all four competed in writing and web design competitions.  The competition was stiff, with Journalism Classes from across the state competing.  

The following two received awards:
Jill Baer, 9th Grade, Honorable Mention in Editorial Writing 
Ava Wahl, 10th Grade, Excellence in News Writing

Jill saved the day when a link to submit the competition pieces was not working -- she figured out a work around and guided all the competitors to do the same.  For her quick problem-solving skills and willingness to help everyone, she was called up to stage and awarded an AP Style Book by the OG in WA State Journalism, Vince DeMiero.  For Journalism geeks, this is super cool : )

State DECA Results!
4500 students, advisors, and chaperones from across the state converged on Bellevue to demonstrate their marketing skills and knowledge. WHS qualified 44 students to the International DECA competition in Orlando, FL. This is a great opportunity for our students to continue their pursuit to compete academically at the highest level. This places each student in the top 10% of marketing students from across the country. Ms Haney, Ms Heusch, Mr. Dilling and Mr. Glenovich are very proud of this group and all of their DECA members. Please congratulate the following students:

The Northshore School Board has announced three finalists for the 2023-24 superintendent position. You are invited to provide your feedback on the final candidates at the upcoming Community Forum.

The Community Forum will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Northshore Performing Arts Center (18125 92nd Ave. NE, Bothell, WA 98011), which is located on the campus of Bothell High School. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m.

Forum participants will be invited to submit questions at the event for the candidates. Questions will be gathered from the audience before the candidates take the stage. Feedback to the School Board will also be collected at the forum to inform final School Board deliberations.

For individuals not able to attend in person, the Northshore School District will be live streaming the forum. Information about live streaming and how to submit electronic feedback will be provided on the Superintendent Search webpage.


The Northshore School Board is expected to make a final selection at a Special Meeting of the Board on March 17, 2023. The new superintendent is scheduled to begin July 1, 2023.
World Language Competency Testing - Spring 2023
Registration closes Mon, 3/13

Online registration is open for students in grades 7-12 to participate in World Language Competency Testing here in Northshore. Registration for WHS students will close on Monday, March 13th, 2023. Testing will take place Tuesday, March 28th at WHS for WHS students. This is an opportunity for students who can read, write, listen, and speak a language other than English to earn up to four competency credits and/or the Seal of Biliteracy designation on their high school transcript.

Registered students will receive more information about scheduling and preparing for the test once all registrations have been received and processed.

Spring State Testing 2022-23:
Mark Your Calendars


In the spring of the 2022-23 school year, current 10th-grade students are scheduled to participate in Smarter Balanced ELA and math state testing as an avenue of fulfilling the state's ELA and math graduation pathway requirement.  Additionally, any 11th-grade or 12th-grade students who have not yet fulfilled the state ELA and/or math graduation pathway requirement will have the opportunity to re-take the ELA and/or math Smarter Balanced test. Juniors will also participate in the state WCAS science exam for federal accountability purposes.

Students must be present on each designated testing day or will need to participate in a make-up session for the missed section of the exam.

Students must bring their fully-charged district-device when participating in state testing, along with compatible earbuds/headsets. (Headsets will be provided for students who do not bring personal earbuds/headsets).
Testing for Woodinville High School students is administered during the student's typical English, math, or science class period.

When are the tests? Who takes which test?

SBAC English Language Arts (ELA) Testing
All 10th graders and any 11th / 12th graders still needing to meet the state's ELA graduation pathway requirement will test during their English class period:
  • Periods 2/4/6: April 17 (CAT) & April 19 (PT)
  • Periods 1/3/5/7: April 18 (CAT) & April 20 (PT)

SBAC Math Testing 
All 10th-graders and any 11th- / 12th-graders still needing to meet the state's math graduation pathway requirement will test during their math class period:
  • Periods 2/4/6: May 15 (CAT) & May 17 (PT)
  • Periods 1/3/5/7:  May 16 (CAT) & May 18 (PT)

WCAS Science Testing
All 11th-graders will take the WCAS (Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science) for federal accountability purposes:
  • Periods 2/4/6:  May 24 (WCAS)
  • Periods 1/3/5/7: May 25 (WCAS)
Please note that 9th-graders do not participate in spring state testing

If an 11th- or 12th-grade student has already met standard in English Language Arts or Math, then the student not need to test again. 

If you have a specific question at this time regarding State testing, please contact your student's counselor or Assessment Coordinator Mike Kelly at mkelly2@nsd.org.
IMPORTANT: WHS Reminder Regarding AP Exam Registration - March 15 Deadline

This is an important notice regarding AP exam registration.  

When students created a MyAP account in the College Board portal to gain course access and register for an exam(s), an AP exam was officially ordered for your student. Please be sure to make payment for all exams your student has registered for on their MyAP account in Total Registration to complete the exam enrollment. (www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/481598

If your student does NOT wish to take an exam, parents/guardians please notify Paul Cho (pcho@nsd.org) as soon as possible so the exam ordered can be canceled, as there will be a $40 fee assessed to your student’s account for each unused exam.
Again, please email Mr. Cho if you want to cancel an exam. Mr. Cho will help with the exam cancellations, as College Board accounts do not allow students (or teachers) to cancel the exams themselves in MyAP.

The final deadline for all registration transactions must be made by Wednesday, March 15, 2023.  

 Thank you for taking care of this right away. 
SAT School Day Exam at WHS Library, Wednesday, March 22

SAT School Day allows for students to take the SAT during the school day at their home high school for $60.00. The SAT School Day exam for Woodinville High School is set for Wednesday, March 22. The exam will start in the AM (start of school, 8:20 a.m.) in the WHS Library and will last approximately 3 1/2 hours.

WHS students must register and make payment on a first come, first serve basis through RegiSmart. 

Registration and payment do not take place at the WHS Main or Cashier's Office

Important information regarding the Wednesday, March 22 registration and payment of the exam:
  • Students register for the SAT School Day exam by going to https://www.regismart.net/#/login. At that link, students will:
    • CREATE ACCOUNT
    • SELECT: Woodinville High School
    • REGISTER and PAY for the exam ($60.00 exam fee)
    • Details of the registration, fee, cancellation policy, are listed on the RegiSmart website
  • Students do not register for SAT School Day exam on the College Board website. However, if a student wants to take the SAT exam on a different date & location throughout the year, they must register for that exam on the College Board SAT website.
  • Due to limited testing space, this exam will be capped at 45 students max. Any student who registers after the maximum registrations have been met will be placed on a wait list or moved to another testing location if there is space available.

We appreciate the continued support and generosity of our community! The Chipotle Dine Out this week was once again successful, so thanks to all who participated! This fundraiser always seems to be popular, especially with students. We are part of a wonderful community!

Women of Influence Club seeking donations for May Conference!

Women of Influence Club is hosting their 4th annual Women of Influence Leadership Conference in May. This conference will connect aspiring Woodinville High School students to influential female leaders. The conference will include a panel discussion of eight highly accomplished women in diverse occupations, followed by small round table discussions accompanied by a catered meal.

The goal of this conference is to empower young leaders by giving them an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with professional women in a variety of industries.

In order to stay true to our values of equity and inclusivity, and to give our attendees the best experience possible, our goal is to make this conference free of any cost.

Emergencies and weather-related problems can alter school schedules and affect bus transportation for students. Families will receive a telephone message from the district if there is a change to the school schedule. If no schedule change information is posted, schools and buses are on their regular schedules.

From the WHS Health Room

COVID Updates: 

The Washington State Department of Health has provided new guidance for schools this fall. Please review the Symptom and Exposure Flowchart for Schools and learn about the Northshore School District's COVID information on our Health Room website so you are prepared for the school year.  You'll find details about what to do if your child has:
  • Symptoms,
  • If your child is exposed to COVID,
  • What kind of test your child should have,
  • What to do if your child tests positive, and
  • How you will be notified of COVID cases at school.

Other Illnesses: 

To avoid the spread of illness other than COVID, follow these guidelines when deciding whether your child is healthy enough for school.  In addition to the COVID guidelines, if your child has any of the symptoms below, please keep him/her at home until the symptoms subside: 
  • APPEARANCE/BEHAVIOR: unusually tired, difficult to wake, pale, skin rash, lack of appetite; these are often signs of underlying illness.
  • FEVER: temperature of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours
  • VOMITING/DIARRHEA: within the past 24 hours.
  • RASH: Any rash of unknown cause should be considered contagious. Please have your child examined by a health care provider to determine the cause and communicability of the rash before sending him/her to school. The school may require a note from the health care provider stating that the rash is not contagious.
  • Other: For other specific diseases or health difficulties it is always a good idea to contact the school nurse. We are happy to share information and resources anytime! 

Students must be fever-free without fever reducing medication and other symptoms improving before returning to school. 

Medications at School:

If your student will be taking any medication at school, please contact the school nurse.  The Northshore School District recommends that medication be taken at home whenever possible.  We recognize, however, that in some cases it is essential that medication be administered during the school day. Learn about the procedures for the handling of ALL medications in the schools, as well as find the authorization form, on our Health Room website.

Please do not put any kind of medicine, including Tylenol, vitamins, and cough drops in your child's lunch box, backpack or pockets.  Unidentified medicine can never be given at school.

The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to  inform families and students of  COVID-19 cases and potential outbreaks.
  • The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting.
  • Thank you for continuing to let the Nurse Callahan and Nurse Gardner know if your child tests positive for COVID-19.
  • To view information, including school and district trends, visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings
