Dear TMI Community,
Spring is in the air and before we know it we will be celebrating the graduation of TMI’s Class of 2023! This will be our 129th graduating class and I’m so proud to watch these future servant leaders wrap up this chapter of their lives and take on the adventures that are before them.
I am writing to you today to announce that effective immediately, the Board of Governors has unanimously approved a change in title for me. In an effort to clarify my day-to-day role on this campus and ensure that the long term-future of our school is as strong as our amazing history, the Board has changed my title, which is currently Head of School, to President. As President, I am changing Dr. Jasmine B. Harris’ title, which is currently Head of School for Academics and Programs, to Head of School.
The 2023-2024 school year will be my seventh year as the leader of TMI and my 21st year in ministry. I have spent my professional career building community, leading strategically, and creating culture in each of the communities I have served. My experience in leadership is rooted in “seeing the big picture” and building a roadmap to reach overall strategic goals.
Dr. Harris will be entering her third year in our community and her 28th year in schools. She has spent her professional career leading academic communities and creating learning environments that support creative and passionate teaching that is student-focused and student-centered. Her experience is rooted in knowing what great teaching and learning looks like and building a roadmap to reach academic and programmatic strategic goals.
This President / Head of School structure is a model that is used in many Universities as well as Independent High Schools. This model has also been used by TMI before. This structure will best position TMI to pursue our exciting future and provide us with parallel platforms to lead our school and community.
My level of involvement in the TMI community is not changing. One of the things I love most is supporting our students from the stands, on the sidelines, at their Chapel talks and more. I would not trade those relationships and interactions for anything. The change in titles will not change who I am and how I lead on this campus. It will, however, speak clearly to the very different roles that Dr. Harris and I serve and make clear to the community how we lead in our respective roles.
Join me in congratulating Dr. Harris on her title change. We are blessed to have her wisdom, experience, and leadership as our Head of School. I remain humbled and proud to be a part of the TMI community and look forward to many more years of loving, leading, and serving you all.
Father Scott J. Brown
