The message below was sent out to the international student community this morning.
Dear international student community,

Diversity and inclusion are the foundations of international education, and the ISSS team is committed to fostering cultural understanding. We condemn acts of violence, racism, and hate, such as those that occured in the city of Atlanta on Tuesday evening. Sadly, acts of violence and bigotry toward Asians and Asian-Americans have escalated in the United States since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have been appalled to hear reports of such incidents around the country and we firmly denounce not only these acts of violence and discrimination, but also the xenophobia and racism that lead to such acts.

We stand in solidarity with all members of our Asian community, regardless of where you are in the world at this time, and want you to know that our support for you is as strong as ever. You are a vital and valued part of the Miami University community, and your strong presence on our campuses and in our communities has been greatly missed. We are eager to welcome you back, and we are committed to supporting you, advocating for you, and continuing our efforts to increase the cultural understanding in our community.

Campus resources that you may wish to utilize include:

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to ISSS via email or schedule an appointment with an advisor if you would like to talk. We are here for you.

Sincerely,
Molly Heidemann
