Dear student,
We are excited to welcome you back to campus in less than a month. We continue to follow the news regarding the spread of COVID-19 and, more recently, the Delta variant. As always, we are committed to the health and safety of our students. Therefore, Miami University will be following the CDC guidelines related to testing and quarantine for international travelers. These guidelines include the following:

  • All individuals arriving from outside the U.S. are expected to get tested for COVID-19 three to five days after travel is complete.
  • Unvaccinated individuals arriving from outside the U.S. will be expected to quarantine for seven days after travel is complete, even if their COVID-19 test is negative (in case of a positive COVID-19 test, the student will be required to isolate).
  • Note: Individuals who have received only one dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccination series:
    • Do not have to quarantine if the vaccine is FDA-approved
    • MUST quarantine if the vaccine is not approved by the FDA
Uploading Vaccine Records

All students who have received an FDA- or WHO-authorized COVID-19 vaccine should upload documentation of the vaccine into MedProctor. Documentation must be translated into English. Students will receive an email from MedProctor 3-7 days after submission indicating whether their documentation has been approved or if additional information is needed. Note that Miami University is not requiring individuals to be vaccinated for COVID-19.

Quarantine and Testing

Here are additional details about the quarantine requirement and answers to many of the questions we are anticipating:

  • Students will be able to get tested for COVID-19 at Student Health Services in Oxford or at any other provider that offers COVID-19 testing.
    • COVID-19 testing will be available at Millett Hall on the Oxford campus August 18-22 from 8am-4pm. No appointment is necessary.
  • Students who are in quarantine may leave their quarantine location to get tested, but should follow all safety precautions and return directly to their quarantine location following testing.
  • Unvaccinated students who live in university housing on the Oxford campus are expected to quarantine in their assigned residence hall room. In case of a positive COVID-19 test, they will be moved to a separate isolation location on campus.
    • While in quarantine in university housing, students will be able to order meals through Miami catering and have the meals delivered to their room. More details will be provided.
  • Unvaccinated students who live off-campus are expected to quarantine at their residence.
  • If the seven-day quarantine period causes students to miss classes during the first week of the semester, they should email each of their instructors to notify them of their situation. Faculty are expected to make accommodations for students who are in quarantine and unable to attend class.

We recognize that this information is a change from what we had previously indicated regarding quarantine expectations. We have learned over the past year and a half that the COVID-19 situation is continually changing and requires us to be adaptable. The safety of our community is our highest priority.

We look forward to a successful fall semester!

Sincerely,
Molly Heidemann
