   TRADITIONS OF SPIRIT
Last week, we asked a question about the Spirit Bell: “What year was the new bell found to replace the old one?” The correct answer is 2002. After a 20-year search, a group of dedicated UNT alumni found a very similar bell, in both size and sound, that would replace the retired bell. The Spirit Bell is now rung at UNT football home games, symbolizing victory, strength and vitality.
This week, we are highlighting the Homecoming Bonfire, the largest handmade pallet bonfire in Texas! While the Spirit Bell is one of the oldest traditions, the bonfire is one of the largest traditions at UNT. The bonfire sparks spirit and kindles community among the Mean Green Family the night before the Homecoming football game each fall.
If you haven’t done so already, be sure to follow UNT on Instagram and keep up with the Traditions highlight every Friday!

  NEW NAME FOR NEW COLLEGE
We have exciting news from New College at UNT at Frisco! The college name has changed from New College to the College of Applied and Collaborative Studies. Degree programs that previously were housed in New College will be part of the newly created Department of Multidisciplinary Innovation.
“This is a huge milestone for us,” says Audhesh Paswan, vice provost for UNT at Frisco and dean of the college. “The new name represents who we are, what we are doing and what we plan to keep doing. We feel that students will identify more with the new name as it better reflects the type of degrees they are receiving.”
