Message from the DirectorDuring May we welcomed our new cohort of ECR Ambassadors who form the ECR Forum and continue to build a cross-faculty network of ECR peers. We hosted a number of engagements including visits to the SNH from Transport NSW, the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy Global Business and Talent Attraction and the Economic Commissioner, Greater Sydney Commission. We held a very interesting Sydney Nano Scientific Seminar with Dr Daniele Vigolo presenting and coming up we will hold our first Town Hall for the year on Tuesday 15 June. And finally, our congratulations to Prof Hala Zreiqat named a 2021 Academy of Science Fellow.

Bridge Program 2021 recipient
Congratulations to Dr Pegah Varamini, NanoPharma cluster co-chair in the Sydney Nanohealth Network, who has been offered a placement in the 2021 Bridge Program which involves a consortium of pharmaceutical companies, universities and industry affiliates. Successful participants take part in training in the various disciplines that contribute to the commercialisation of new medicines.

Sydney Nano delivers high-speed smart sensing for Australian Defence
Prof Ben Eggleton's team at Project Jericho combined scientific skills from the School of Physics with design excellence from the School of Architecture, Design and Planning to develop the prototype in just three months. Dubbed MANTIS, the system under development integrates a traditional camera with a visual system inspired by neurobiological architectures, which will allow aircraft, ships and vehicles to identify fast moving objects, such as drones. Sydney Nano welcomed the Global Pharma Partnering Team of Roche, a Swiss multinational healthcare company that operates worldwide. The great alignment of key therapeutic areas of interest for Roche and areas of clinical and translational research excellence of the Sydney NanoHealth Network provides a fantastic opportunity for collaboration. Roche and Sydney Nano will deepen the dialogue in the comings weeks.
