Dear Coach,
Congratulations! Your first day of the National Tournament is in the books. Now that you’ve navigated the tournament experience today, it should get much easier from this point forward.
As a reminder, first breaks occur after round 6. For those students who don't advance, you may wish to encourage them to observe rounds 7 and 8.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
Student Posting Party at the Uptown District » Tuesday night, you and your students are invited to our student posting party at the Uptown District. During this event, students who advanced to rounds 7 and 8 will find out if they advance to round 9 on Wednesday. We will post each of the event breaks on monitors for all to view. Additionally, high school students who were either eliminated on Tuesday or do not advance to round 9 can re-register for supplemental events. Check the Nats17 Guidebook App or see pages 40-41 of your tournament book for complete information.
Middle School Registration and Expo » On Tuesday, middle school students will begin arriving in Birmingham! The registration and expo for Middle School Nationals is Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Westin Ballrooms A-C.
National Tournament Education Sessions » The Education Sessions at the National Tournament offer learning opportunities for new and veteran coaches alike. Prepare to share tips, expand your network, and grow your program. The Tuesday schedule is available on page 13 of the tournament book and on the Nats17 Guidebook app under the "Education Sessions" track.
Lunch for Policy Coaches » If you have students interested in competing in Policy Debate at the college level, join Trinity University’s Director of Debate Will Mosley-Jensen for lunch at Mountain Brook HS from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to learn more about the admissions process and scholarship opportunities. Trinity is also sponsoring a gourmet dessert bar as a part of lunch! Can’t make it? Learn more about Trinity’s team here
