The Church of the Nazarene began work in South Korea in 1948. Korea Nazarene University, in Cheonan, was founded in 1954 and accredited in 1992. The university started with three majors in the theology department. Today, there are an additional thirteen majors related to rehabilitation and special education. South Korea is known for its green, hilly countryside dotted with cherry trees, its coastal fishing villages, sub-tropical islands, and high-tech cities such as Seoul. The population is approximately 51.2 million. The contemporary culture of South Korea developed from the traditional culture of Korea which was prevalent in the early Korean nomadic tribes. Today, many Korean cultural elements, especially popular culture, have spread across the globe and has become one of the most prominent cultural forces in the world.
