February Is Islamic Awareness Month: Muslim Call to Prayer

Fridays in February, 1:45 p.m., Call to Prayer: Cox Hall; Friday Prayer: Cannon Chapel
The Emory Muslim Students Association and the Graduate Muslim Student Council celebrate the month of February as Islamic Awareness Month, and by longstanding tradition, the Muslim call to prayer (adhan) is played on Fridays after the 1:45 p.m. chimes from the Cox Hall carillon. This call to prayer announces the time for Jumu'ah prayers, the weekly communal prayer held on Fridays at 1:55 p.m. in Cannon Chapel.
The call to prayer is a general statement of Islamic belief and a summons to prayer, traditionally recited from mosque minarets five times a day.

Emory OSRL in the News: Facing History: Interfaith Journey to EJI
"Throughout the early 1960s, high school and college students from across the country traveled to the South by bus in order to register people to vote. The civil rights movement was well on its way to changing the future of America, and the youth propelled it. These summer bus trips became known as freedom rides. This remembrance lines the wall outside of the Legacy Museum in Montgomery, Alabama.
During Emory’s 2023 King Week observances, the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life (OSRL) offered students, faculty and staff the unique opportunity to visit the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama.”

For the upcoming festival of Mahashivratri ("The great night of Shiva"), Emory's Hindu Chaplaincy and the Hindu Students Association are planning a visit to the Hindu Temple of Atlanta on February 18 to witness their worship and have darshan of Bhagavan Shiva. - 8:30-8:45 pm: Gather outside Rita Ann Rollins Building at 1531 Dickey Drive
- 8:45 pm: Depart campus by bus for Hindu Temple of Atlanta

Heritage Month: "Blackness Unfiltered" At Candler School of Theology
February 2023
Candler’s Black Student Caucus (BSC) will celebrate Heritage Month with a variety of events throughout February 2023, including the annual Heritage Ball in partnership with the school’s Advancement and Alumni Engagement office.
Proceeds from the ball support the Erskine-Smith-Moseley Scholarship Endowment at Candler, which honors three of the school’s first Black faculty and provides students from Candler’s Black Church Studies program with scholarships and stipends to support their theological education.

Religion and the Legacies of Slavery: A Series of Public Online Conversations

Servant Leadership Internship Program Applications Open Feb 1
The Servant Leadership internship program is a funded summer internship program that provides students with a supervised opportunity to work with Atlanta-area nonprofits in a wide-variety of fields. This internship program is designed to enrich the student's life and integrate the practical, intellectual, and spiritual components of work while deepening understandings of responsibility, service, and vocation.
The Servant Leadership Summer Program includes an orientation, weekly class sessions, projects, and 270 hours of work at your placement site. Students receive a stipend of between $2,000 and $4,000. Application deadline is Wednesday, March 1, 2023 by 5:00 p.m. For more information about this internship program and to apply, please visit the program website.
