Graduate Students Care — Let’s Make a Difference Together |
Service and mission are at the heart of the Seton Hall community, and Graduate Student Appreciation Week is the perfect moment to put those values into action. This year, we’re inviting all graduate students to show just how much “Grad Students Care” by contributing to our non‑perishable food drive taking place at every event from April 13 to April 17 on both campuses,
As you join us throughout the week, keep an eye out for the food collection boxes and take a moment to donate. Even one item can help support a neighbor in need. In partnership with the Division of Volunteer Efforts (DOVE), all donations will go directly to local food banks and pantries.
Your participation doesn’t just fill shelves — it strengthens our community. Let’s come together and make an impact.

| Do You Know About Our Virtual Lunch and Learn Series? |
Suzanne, a graduate student in our Ed.D. in Education Leadership, Management and Policy (ELMP) program had this to say about our Lunch and Learn Series:
As a graduate student, I have found the “Lunch and Learn” series to be such an unexpected formative tool for my professional development. It is so rare to find a ‘one-stop shop’ that addresses so many of my current academic concerns, but this program covers exactly what grad students need: dissertation support, research strategies and career prep, all in an accessible one-hour virtual format. I always walk away with something valuable for my academic journey. The ability to gain these high-level insights without leaving my desk makes it the perfect fit for a busy doctoral schedule. THANK YOU for providing this helpful opportunity. It is clear that SHU deeply values its students by investing in programs that provide such meaningful and practical support.
Check out our April sessions:
Join the Career Center for a practical and energizing virtual Lunch and Learn for graduate students searching for internships, part-time roles, contract work and full-time opportunities. This session focuses on how to use a mix of reactive and proactive search strategies to find roles. We will explore ways to find open opportunities, including job boards, professional networks, target organization research and direct outreach, so you can build a focused, efficient, and personalized search plan.
This interactive session breaks down what anxiety actually is, why the body reacts the way it does, and how to interrupt the stress response using practical coping skills. The focus is on understanding, not diagnosing, and building tools that work in real life.

| Master of Public Administration
As a graduate student in the public administration program with a focus on nonprofit management, Simmons often noticed lines of people at the local food bank as he walked to campus. As a member of the Environmental Sustainability Committee, Simmons believed there was a way to match this need with student volunteerism, leading to the formation of the campus Sustainability Club.
The club’s first big action was forming a partnership with local nonprofit Table to Table, New Jersey’s largest food rescue organization. But that was just the start. “The Sustainability Club applies to environmental issues and social sustainability, and it can involve political, charitable or business entities,” said Simmons. “Really, any way that students can help provide sustainability is a fit.”

What's Happening This Month
Consider current grad student events:
Professional branding is the intentional curation of your skills, values and experiences in a way that demonstrates the value you deliver. Here are three steps to help you build your brand.
-
Identify your unique value. Before you can communicate your brand, you must define it. Base your brand in both your strengths and market needs.. Go beyond generic titles such as “Graduate Student” and instead highlight industry specific skills and the reputation you want to have in your field.
-
Shift your mindset from self-promotion to contribution. Focus your brand on the value you provide. Demonstrate your knowledge and expertise in meaningful ways. Emphasize how you contribute to a team, support organizational goals, and make an impact.
-
Be consistent. Your brand should be cohesive, both in-person and virtually. Ensure that how you present yourself at work and events aligns with your LinkedIn presence, your email signature and other digital platforms.
