WHS celebrates five seniors recognized as National Merit Finalists!
WHS is honored to announce that seniors Isabella Bueno, Ethan Kam, Benjamin Sehmel, Elliot Smith, and Aria Yang have been named as National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation!
Finalists represent less than one-half of 1 percent of the 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test nationwide in fall of their junior year. They will be considered for National Merit Scholarship Awards to be awarded this spring and may receive other offers because of their standings as National Merit Finalists! All five were celebrated Thursday, March 18 with a certificate, yard sign, and balloons!
Congratulations to Isabella, Ethan, Benjamin, Elliot, and Aria and their families on this remarkable achievement!

NHS Final Hours Submission
All final hours for National Honor Society members are due by 11:59 p.m. on March 26th, 2021. Students will upload documentation of at least 20 service hours total to the assignment on the NHS Schoology page. Please remember to submit ALL service hours for the year, including a resubmission of the hours submitted at the November check.
Students who do not upload their final hours or did not meet requirements from the November check will not be considered for admission into National Honor Society for the 2021-2022 school year. (Yes, students are being inducted into NHS for next year.) Details will follow about the induction ceremony that will take place on May 20, 2021.
Students can view their "grade" on the NHS Schoology to check that they have met requirements for the year so far. There is no appeal process for not turning hours in on time or a cumulative GPA below 3.5.

Tuesday, March 23: Talon Time Advisory - ASB Activity for Grades 9, 10, & 11 and REQUIRED Senior Class Meeting for Grade 12, 1:25-1:55 p.m.
For Advisory on Tuesday, Grades 9, 10, & 11 MUST ATTEND for an ASB Activity. Students in Grade 12 MUST attend for a REQUIRED Senior Class Meeting surrounding the Senior Timeline to graduation.
For grades 9, 10, and 11, the ASB Elections Committee will be announcing the 2021-22 ASB Executive Board Members
- Grade 9, 10, and 11 advisors will provide Zoom links through Schoology for their students.
- Grades 9, 10, & 11 will be marked absent if not in attendance.
For grade 12, Activities Director Mr. Melton will advise the Webinar link to senior advisors and will send a message through Naviance to ALL seniors by Tuesday morning to access the REQUIRED Senior Class Meeting surrounding the Senior Timeline to graduation.

Delivery of WHS Class of 2021 "We Love You" Yard Signs began Saturday, March 6!
WHS ASB, administration, faculty, and staff are glad to hear the positive feedback that the signs are welcome additions to our seniors' yards!
The WHS Junior class designed the sign and organized the distribution to show their love for the class of 2021. Please know that there are a lot of signs to be delivered and most of them are being delivered by students. We are hoping each senior had a sign by Sunday, March 7.
If you did not receive one by the end of the day Monday, March 8, please email WHS Activities Director Kurt Melton at kmelton@nsd.org and he will arrange for one to be delivered to your senior.

You will also find a link to important information on how to prevent cyberbullying.

Families are encouraged to take a few minutes to check their contact information, including phone numbers and email addresses. We use parent/guardian email addresses to create school mailing lists. The District also uses email as a tool for sharing important, and sometimes urgent, information with families. Automated phone calls are sent to families with safety and emergency messages.

Follow NSD Reopening Plan & Safety Protocols
The following plan was developed by District staff in preparation for a return to school and District buildings when it is safe to do so. The information in this handbook is intended to help everyone understand required safety protocols and know what to expect for every student and staff member. As the pandemic data and state response continue to evolve, District staff will continue to review, refine, and adjust this plan as needed. We remain grateful for their efforts.
The return to in-person learning will be most successful and have the best chance to be sustainable if we are all prepared and working together. We ask that you familiarize yourself and your students with the following health department protocols and CDC requirements.

Reopening Schedule & Activities
With the safety of students, staff and families as top priority, certain student groups are returning to classrooms for in-person instruction and other student groups will come to school campuses for transition and support activities.
Remote learning will continue for students whose families choose to keep them home.

Student Health Check Form in ParentVUE/StudentVUE
When in-person learning resumes, each morning, parents and guardians must complete a daily Health Check form in ParentVUE for their student prior to their student arriving on campus. This applies during Bridge Weeks, as applicable, and hybrid learning. Middle and high school students can complete their own health check form daily if they prefer. Completion will be required prior to entering the building.
On March 22, the official Northshore School District’s Health Check form will be launched for ALL students. To pilot the process, the District activated the Health Check form in ParentVUE on March 18 for all students -- this practice was for students in all modes of learning: Bridge Weeks, hybrid learning, and remote. When you login you will be prompted to complete the Health Check form for your student. All families are encouraged to practice Health Check to begin making this process part of your morning routine.
With the launch, in the meantime, parents and guardians must complete this form daily in order to access anything else in ParentVUE. This includes parents and guardians of students in all modes of learning -- Bridge Weeks, hybrid, and remote. By completing this form on a daily basis, all families will be familiar with the process when their students do return to in-person learning. Please note if the answer to any of the questions on the daily Health Check form is yes, the student must stay home and contact their school.
Families can visit nsd.org/healthcheck to get more information about how to access the form. The webpage has step by step instructions, along with helpful tutorial videos in accessing ParentVUE and StudentVUE, as well as how to complete the daily form.
The Northshore School District mobile app also provides access to the webpage. You can select the icon titled “Health Check” and it will bring you directly to the webpage where the forms are located.
When the time comes for in-person learning to resume, if a parent/student forgot to complete the form before arriving on campus, QR codes will be available to scan with the student's mobile device’s camera outside the building. The QR code will take you directly to nsd.org/healthcheck to complete the process. Paper copies will also be available on site, if needed.

Does Your Student Owe Fines or Fees?
Pursuant to NSD guidelines, notifications are mailed to homes at the end of each quarterly grading period. The fine and outstanding fee ledgers will be sent out to homes the week of February 8th. Fines and fees can always be viewed and paid online 24-hours a day through TouchBase, using your NSD generated log in information that has been given to you.

Northshore Speaks
Students, do you want to share your voice? The Northshore School District is hosting Northshore Speaks at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 29 for students and staff to share their own spoken word poetry.
Original spoken word poems submitted to Flipgrid before the end of day on Sunday, April 18, 2021 will be considered for the 2021 Northshore Speaks event. Northshore students and staff should log in to Flipgrid using their Northshore School District account. If an entry is selected, District Communications staff will connect directly with the student and their family, or the staff member. If you are a student, be sure to have your parent/guardian complete the Northshore Speaks participation form.

Power or Internet Outage -
What To Do
We understand that weather incidents may cause a loss of power when students and staff are engaged in distance learning. Our district's Technology, Northshore Learns, and Communications teams collaborated with educators to develop a plan for notifications about power outages, access to service, and how everyone can prepare ahead of time to adjust and continue learning. Building Our Falcon Community this School Year!
We are so excited for our students to join all the exciting clubs Woodinville has to offer. Here at WHS, students will find clubs ranging from a wide variety of interests, and WHS ASB has a lot in store for students to meet all these different clubs.

New E-Flyer Platform - Peachjar
We are excited to share that we have moved our e-flyer program to a platform called Peachjar. We receive many requests from local non-profit organizations to distribute program fliers. Peachjar will help facilitate the process of submitting, reviewing, approving and posting e-flyers. With the move to this platform, all e-flyers that are submitted to Peachjar will then be reviewed and approved by District staff to ensure that they meet the District guidelines. We are committed to providing access to all individuals seeking information on our District website. All submitted PDFs must meet accessibility requirements to be approved for distribution. We also encourage organizations to submit flyers in the top five languages spoken in our district.

Having reliable connectivity to the internet is critical for your student’s success during distance learning. The state recognizes this need, and has partnered with Ziply Fiber and Comcast/Xfinity to create Washington’s K–12 Internet Access Program, which gives eligible families free internet access so your student can connect to online learning from home.
This internet access opportunity will provide you with faster, stronger and more reliable connectivity than hotspots or tethering to mobile devices, which will better support your student. If eligible, your free internet access is available through June 30, 2021.

2020-21 ATHLETICS REGISTRATION
FinalForms registration is still OPEN for Season 2 (winter) and Season 3 (spring) sports. Registration closes for gymnastics on Monday, March 29, and other Season 2 (winter) sports on Monday, April 5. Registration will remain open for Season 3 (spring) sports until Monday, May 3.
Required PRIOR to Participation in Athletics
To participate in athletics, a FinalForms registration must be completed by both parent and student and a current sports physical must be on file with the WHS Athletic Office. Sports physicals are good for two years from the exam date.

Changes To The Free Meals Program
Our free meals program is changing and we want to be sure families are prepared to place orders that are appropriate for their situation.
NSD is offering free meals for all children ages 18 and younger.
Students do not need to be enrolled in the Northshore School District to receive meals. NSD requires that all families wear a mask and maintain physical distancing when picking up their meals. Thank you for helping to keep our drivers and families safe.

InvestED is a 501 (c) (3) organization that provides funding to support the efforts of secondary schools throughout Washington State. They partner with 660 schools and assist more than 16,500 students with small amounts of short-term, item-specific, need-based funding – items such as shoes, coats, glasses, sports equipment, and academic fees. Their mission is to provide immediate help for students in need. Their goal is to encourage students to stay in school, return to school, or get involved within their learning community.

Apply for Free & Reduced Price Meals Today!
While Northshore is currently providing free meals, this support is made possible by temporary USDA funding. If this funding changes, the District may be required to charge families based on their current eligibility for meals. Have you applied for free and reduced-price meals this year?
If your family qualified last year, you need to reapply this year to ensure that your student receives free or reduced price meals once the current free meals program ends. It is important to apply today so that your eligibility status doesn’t lapse. If an application was not in process for a returning student by October 14, 2020, the student’s account was automatically transferred to a paid account the next school day. Please know that the number of eligible students for free and reduced price meals connects to the District’s Title I funding, which provides additional support at schools to help students succeed. Additionally, if your family income has decreased, you may be eligible for free or reduced-price school meals.
