State Lab Guidance On COVID-19 Testing, Specimen Collection Instructions
The State Laboratory of Public Health distributes COVID-19 specimen collection materials to county health departments, which they then use in-house and/or share with the community as needs arise. On occasion, when specimens are being collected at residential/long-term care facilities, the State Lab is finding that the instructions on how to use their specimen collection devices are not always reaching those who are collecting the specimens, often the facility’s healthcare staff.
Please download and read the current kit instructions (these are half-sheets that go in each of the State Lab kits), which are also on the State Laboratory of Public Health Web site under Key Resources (sidebar). There is also a slightly longer version that gets sent with larger numbers of collection devices, which are shipped in styrofoam coolers. (This is because the shipping and specimen preparation is slightly different for these larger shipments.)
It is always challenging when information needs to pass through multiple hands to reach the end user. By sharing these instructions directly with you, the State Lab hopes you can help by sharing them with any of your colleagues who may be collecting these specimens.
