Students at First Flight Week
   FLIGHT WEEK 2024
First Flight Week, UNT's official welcome week program, is almost upon us! New students will attend campus events Aug. 11-18, to help them get settled and familiar with campus. Frisco Flight Week will start on Monday, Aug. 12, and continue throughout the week at Frisco Landing. If you’re an incoming transfer student, you may participate in the First Flight Transfer Experience, designed especially for you.
Online learners who need extra help during the first two weeks of classes can experience a Virtual Week of Welcome Drop-In Session. Students will meet with an Online Student Experience team member and learn about technology tools and tips to start the semester strong.
New and continuing students are invited to Mean Green Fling from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, on the Library Mall and South Lawn! Bring your current student ID and meet more than 200 student organizations, campus departments and vendors.
Students at Eagle Insomnia
   EAGLE INSOMNIA
Looking for something to do instead of sleeping on Sunday night? UPC is taking over the University Union on Sunday, Aug. 11, with nighttime activities including inflatables, bingo, crafts, glow-in-the-dark games and a silent disco. Eagle Insomnia is a popular tradition before each semester, and it will be hosted from 7 to 11 p.m. throughout the Union.
Bring your current student ID to participate. Don’t miss out on a night of fun!

   EAGLE ALERT POST-TEST
UNT’s Eagle Alert system sent a test message to students, faculty, staff and UNT System staff on Friday, Aug. 2. Because the Eagle Alert system is intended to communicate vital, urgent information in potentially life-threatening situations, the university maintains strict criteria for initiating an alert to the community.
If you are on or near campus and receive an Eagle Alert, it is crucial that you pay attention to the alert. Learn about Eagle Alert and check your contact information at my.unt.edu. We suggest saving an Eagle Alert contact in your phone, so you'll know the source of the call (940-369-8097) or text message (89361).

   CONSTRUCTION ON AVENUE C
On Monday, Aug. 12, the City of Denton will begin rebuilding Avenue C from Eagle Drive to Highland Street. Work is expected to last through the fall semester. Barricades will be placed Monday closing Avenue C and vehicles traveling west on Maple Street toward Avenue C will not be able to pass Avenue B.
Pedestrians will need to use crosswalks at Eagle Drive or Highland Street to get around the job site. Stay safe and remember that the work zone is off-limits to everyone except authorized workers!
Check Facilities' External Construction page to see project updates.

   SCRAPPY'S SIGHTS
In a previous issue, we asked if you know where the bronze dog statue is located on the UNT campus. This dog is said to be named Rowdy, and he stands proudly in the Traditions Hall courtyard facing North Texas Boulevard. He has a mysterious past, but everyone agrees he’s a good boy!
Rowdy protects the courtyard, and he is one of many animal statues on campus. Thank you to everyone who participated in this contest; winners will receive an email with instructions explaining how to collect their prizes.

The UNT CoLab will accept donations through Aug. 31, during the Square-d exhibitionThose who donate receive a coupon for 20% off one item in the retail boutique, which features Mean Green and Denton-inspired products!
