The PSU College of Education and colleagues across the university are consoling one another with memories of Alexander “Xander” Davies, Assistant Professor in the Curriculum and Instruction Department who passed away at his home last week at age 35.
Marvin Lynn, Dean of the College of Education tells us, “He was a promising researcher, teacher, and servant leader. He was a beloved professor and a well respected colleague. Although he had been teaching at PSU for only a few years, his passion for teaching future teachers came through in his work every day. He will be greatly missed.”
Other colleagues shared memories of Xander’s passion for equity in education, his focus on family and community involvement and the support, inspiration and friendship that he shared freely with his students and fellow teachers.
We share our deepest condolences with Xander’s family and everyone who was touched by his time with us at Portland State.
A service for Davies will be held over Zoom from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 29. If you would like to attend and are not a COE student, staff member or faculty member, please email coe-dean@pdx.edu for the link.
