Ed Martin's Kahus

Message from the Kahus

With Dad out on vacation (don’t worry, our aunt is taking care of us), we’ve been doing a little bit of surfing on the Internet, looking at dog parks in the area, and checking the toy sales, and we came across this little gem. In Hawaii, people don’t call themselves owners; they call themselves Kahu. It has many meanings, such as protector, guardian, steward, and beloved attendant. Basically, it is someone entrusted with the safekeeping of something precious. We like to think of Ed as our Kahu. And, in return, we are his Kahu. Although we miss him while he’s gone, he knows we are safe, we know he is safe, and at night, we all sleep a bit better, knowing how lucky we are to have each other as Kahus.

Anna Weinberg and Ariel Léger of the School of Natural Resources and the Environment will join Dean Shane Burgess Thursday to tell us more about the Conservation and Adaptation Resources Toolbox, a partnership involving dozens of organizations aimed at developing actionable science and improving comunications around issues in landscape conservation and restoration.

The CART program also provides mentorship to students and emerging professionals interested in careers in natural resource management.

What: Dail-the-Dean
