Interim Studies
While the Nebraska Legislature is not in session, state senators keep themselves busy studying issues through interim studies. These studies help in the development of new bills.
Two bills we are monitoring will have public hearings in October:
LR63: Examine Educational Service Units ESUs are a source for professional development for arts educators. Invited testimony will be heard on Friday, October 4 at 8:30am, Room 1510 of the State Capitol and streamed online at NET.
LR126: Issues Related to Urban Development  We are providing information to the Urban Affairs Committee on creative district initiatives across the country. This meeting will be held Wednesday, October 16 at 4:00pm at Metropolitan Community College's Industrial Training Center, 2909 Edward Babe Gomez Avenue, Omaha.
October is National Arts & Humanities Month (NAHM)—a coast-to-coast collective recognition of the importance of culture in America. NAHM was launched by Americans for the Arts and national arts partners as a month-long celebration, with goals of:
  • FOCUSING on the arts at local, state, and national levels;
  • ENCOURAGING individuals and organizations to participate in the arts;
  • ALLOWING governments and businesses to show their support of the arts; and
  • RAISING public awareness about the role the arts and humanities play in our communities and lives.
Ways to Participate
There are many ways you can celebrate the arts and humanities this October.
Social Media: Starting October 1 on Instagram, Americans for the Arts is using #ShowYourArt2019 as a landing page for people to show how the arts and humanities are a part of your life every day. Follow our daily themes starting and invite your friends to join in, too. Use the #ShowYourArt2019 hashtag on Facebook and Twitter
Get the Word Out to Media: Writing a letter to your local newspaper, sharing the importance of the arts in your community, raises awareness on the impact of the arts and arts education. Want ideas on how to do this, get advice on how to write an op-ed or letter to the editor.
Write to your member of Congress, letting him/her how important arts and arts education funding is to you, your family and your community.
Enjoy the Arts in Nebraska: Grab a friend or family member and go to a museum, a play, a festival, or concert.
