Ditto Landing Groundbreaking
Council Member Jennie Robinson was honored to join Madison County Commissioner Phil Riddick, whose district overlaps with District 3, and other officials at a groundbreaking ceremony for the much-anticipated Ditto Landing event center. The facility, at the old State Docks, will overlook the Tennessee River and expand recreational opportunities in Huntsville. The project will largely be funded by the Madison County Commission while the City of Huntsville will contribute and make infrastructure investments.

Big Plans for Big Spring Park
As demolition of the former City Hall building nears completion, the Planning Commission approved final plans for the expansion of Big Spring Park that will capture the site where City Hall once stood. The project reimagines the site at 308 Fountain Circle as a dynamic public greenspace, adding approximately 2.4 acres to the park. Planned features include a multi-terraced plaza, a central pavilion for hosting events, a children’s playground and enhanced ADA access.

Huntsville Police Honors Life-Saving Hero
Deputy Chief Scott Hudson presented a life-saving medal to Investigator Scot Northcutt at the June 26 Council meeting. The live-saving incident occurred on Feb. 18, when Northcutt came upon a serious crash at Pulaski Pike and Mallory Avenue. Northcutt pulled a Huntsville police officer, whose uniform was on fire, from a burning car and rolled him to the ground to extinguish the flames. Northcutt also used his body to shield the officer as the vehicle became fully engulfed, resulting in parts of Northcutt’s jacket melting from the heat.

The campaign runs through Aug. 12 and seeks to curb dangerous driving habits and reduce crashes through a combination of education and enforcement. HPD said excessive speed is a common thread in fatal traffic accidents in Huntsville. So slow down this summer and stay safe.

Alligators are becoming familiar neighbors in District 3, just like other wildlife. Experts say the best way to avoid an encounter with an alligator is to simply stay away from them. Most importantly, don’t feed them. There have been no reports of alligators attacking or harming people in Huntsville. Alligators have been sighted in the Haysland Road area as well as Aldridge Creek.
