Feminism and Technology (FEMGEN 147)

How can a feminist lens help us understand technology? What can technology teach us about gender? This course explores the mutual shaping of gender and technology using an intersectional feminist approach. Taught by Annika Butler-Wall, this course will draw on theories from feminist science and technology studies (STS) to examine contemporary and historical case studies with attention to how race, sexuality, disability, and class impact the relationship between gender and technology. This FEMGEN 147 will count as a socio-cultural course for ALL STS concentrations. See the course description here.

Ethical STEM: Race, Justice, and Embodied Practice (STS 51D)

Did you have an opportunity to take part in our amazing STS 51 three-part series last year (A,B, and C)?? If not, no worries! A brand new course is being taught by our incredible affiliated faculty, Assistant Professor Aileen Robinson! Note: this course builds upon the STS 51 series from 2020-21, but it is not a prerequisite for the new course. This course can be used to meet part of the STS Social Science and Humanities Program Core, or for part of the Socio-Cultural requirement for the following concentrations: Innovation and Organization, Life Sciences and Health, and Politics and Policy. Funkentelechy: Technologies, Social Justice and Black Vernacular Cultures (STS 200N)

If you are a senior and planning to graduate this year you MUST take senior capstone (in either Autumn, Winter, or Spring) if you haven't already done so. This year's winter quarter capstone course will be taught by Professor Adam Banks. See the course description here.

Emerging Diseases, Past and Present (HISTORY 243D)

Taught by Professor Monica Green, this course will use our current experience with the COVID-19 pandemic as a lens to study the processes by which infectious diseases emerge. This course will be a one-time offering in the Winter Quarter only, this course can be used to meet part of the Socio-Cultural requirement for the following STS Concentrations: Life Sciences and Health and Catastrophic Risks and Solutions. Doing STS: Introduction to Research (STS 191W)

This course, taught by our very own STS Associate Director Kyoko Sato, introduces key analytical approaches and methodologies in STS, as well as basic tools for designing and conducting original research in STS. See the course description here.

Environmental Advocate Spring Internship

Clean Water Action is currently accepting applications for their Winter and Spring 2022 Internship Programs. Interns will work alongside their full time professional outreach team to inform and activate the public about their national and state campaigns to protect clean water, fight climate change, expose the impacts of oil and gas production, find safe alternatives to toxic chemicals, and more. In 2022, teams will be focused on holding our elected officials accountable to help win victories for our water, health, and communities. This is an in person internship and the closest site is Oakland, CA.  Learn more and apply by January 28, 2022.

Swell Campus Station Intern

This is a paid part-time internship to help launch an audio station on Swell the Stanford community. Swell is looking for articulate and motivated students with a passion for audio and public speaking who would enjoy being a creator on a new social platform and help build community at your school.
