Other Bike Month Events

We aren't just limiting the biking fun to one day! There are several events hosted in partnership with the League of American Bicyclists' National Bike Month to get your wheels turning!

Stop by Veteran's Park on Thursday, May 1 or Thursday, May 8 from 11:30-1:30 for bike information, snacks, and to register for the main event - Bike to Work Day! On May 8, we will be joined by Nick Griffin of Griffin Cycle, who will check your bike to make sure it's up to speed for the big day!

After you've registered for Bethesda's Bike to Work Day Pit Stop, come find us on the Capital Crescent Trail on Friday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 14 for FREE coffee and more bike information! We will be at the rest area near the head of the trail by Bethesda Avenue from 6:30-8:30 am.

On Wednesday, May 7, you can start your day by biking with your child to school! Bike to School Day is organized by the National Center for Safe Routes to School. After you've biked with your child to his or her school, stay on your bike for your commute to work! Click here for more information.

If you're a little unsure of your bike riding skills, you can participate in a Confident City Cycling Class in Silver Spring on Saturday, May 10. The class, hosted in conjunction with the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) and Montgomery County Commuter Services, will be held from 10:00 - 1:00 at 8787 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, MD. For more information and to register for the class, click here.

On Sunday, May 11, you can participate in Cyclofemme, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists. If you want to bike to work, but are not sure you're in shape for it, try this recreational ride the weekend before Bike to Work Day! Click here for more information.

At the Bethesda Bike to Work Day Pit Stop, BTS recognizes two cyclists who are committed to biking to work with Bike Spirit Awards. To be considered, nominees must work in Downtown Bethesda. Click here to nominate yourself or a co-worker!

Street Smart Comes to Bethesda

Join BTS and the Montgomery County Department of Transportation on Tuesday, April 29, 4:00pm-7:00pm at Wisconsin Avenue and Old Georgetown Road, near the Bethesda Metro station for a pedestrian safety event!

Stop by the tent and pick up some FREE information and pedestrian safety items. This event is part of the Street Smart spring safety campaign to remind area drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists to be alert and obey traffic safety laws. To make sure they do, area police will be stepping up enforcement and will ticket and fine violators – whether on foot, a bike, or behind the wheel.

You may have noticed the Montgomery County Police Department targeting several areas around downtown Bethesda for stricter enforcement of laws concerning pedestrians. Motorists were warned and cited for failing to yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks, and pedestrians were warned and cited for crossing outside of marked crosswalks.

You can learn more about Street Smart here.
