Dear Tritons,
First, thank you for all you continue to do to keep each other safer while many of you are battling pandemic fatigue (resources are available), juggling assignments, and making plans for the upcoming Fall and Winter Breaks.
New Public Health Guidance
We are writing to bring to your attention the campus notice that was sent yesterday (11-17-2020). You will see that the State of California, San Diego County and the UC San Diego campus have implemented new public health guidelines to slow the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.
To keep our community safer, we are asking that you regularly participate in COVID-19 testing. This is particularly important if you plan to travel for Fall Break or choose to engage in unmasked off-campus activities that may put you or others at risk for exposure to the virus. Students residing on or coming to campus for any activity are required to test twice a month, and it is strongly encouraged for ALL students.
In addition to scheduled, asymptomatic testing at the Price Center and UC San Diego Health drive-up sites, we have now implemented self-administered testing for students.
Self-administered Testing Now Available
Undergraduate and graduate students—including those living in Grad and Family Housing and off campus students—may now take part in a pilot program for self-administered asymptomatic COVID-19 testing. Students may pick-up and drop-off a testing kit between the hours of 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., seven days a week at the following locations:
- 7th College (Parcel Center)
- Nuevo East (Fitness Center)
- Price Center Ballroom B
Self-administered testing allows students to test at a time and location of their choosing. Kits include instructions and the supplies needed for testing. Kits should be returned within 72 hours of pick-up at the drop-off bins located at the pick-up locations.
Move to Weekly Testing
In light of the recent rise in cases around San Diego County, we will begin COVID-19 testing on a weekly basis at no cost, starting November 30.
You’ve been doing great work. Keep it up! With each passing day, we’re a few steps closer to the approval of a vaccine and to our ultimate goal of being in community together again.
Be well,
