Submit your proposal now for the
2022 LATI ColloquiumDeadline: Tuesday, February 1
The NJCU Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies announces the 2022 LATI Colloquium, to be held in a mixed in-person and virtual format on April 6-7. Each year, the Colloquium highlights scholarly and creative work of faculty, students, alumni, and staff from NJCU and from other colleges and universities in the area. We also welcome participation by the larger community, including members representing specific community organizations.
The Center welcomes proposals for any scholarly or creative work relating to Latin America, the Caribbean, and Latinx communities in the United States. You can submit a proposal for an individual paper, poster, artwork, performance, or other format, or you can propose a panel, exhibit, or performance with multiple participants.
Submission Process: Please submit your proposal by clicking the Colloquium submission portal below by Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Your submission should include a one-paragraph abstract of not more than 150 words.

How are you doing? How are you feeling? Had a long weekend? Anxious about the upcoming week? Feeling stressed or overwhelmed? This bi-weekly drop-in group aims to create a safe space where currently enrolled students can identify potential stressors and set goals for the upcoming week, engage in conversations around wellness, and connect with other students by giving and receiving support and feedback.

Spring 2022: Rebound Academic Probation Program Orientation

The Spring 2022 Rebound, academic probation support program, launches on Monday, January 31 at 2:00 p.m. via Zoom. All students on academic probation (GPAs below 2.0) have received communications and are encouraged to attend this orientation session. Services provided by the Rebound program include advisement, tutoring, counseling, and other student and academic support services.

This workshop series, presented in partnership with NJ Hope and Healing, is designed to strengthen the mind's ability to stay focused on what is happening right now, to meet the present moment with kindness, and to respond rather than react. In this series, you will learn about Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and how it can actually change your neural pathways, boost your immune system, help manage pain, and promote healthier relationships. We will discuss stress triggers and healthy strategies for coping with them. Finally, you will learn how to respond to yourself and others with kindness and nonjudgment, which can elevate your mood and make you happier!

Women's Wrestling: First-Ever Home Match

The NJCU women’s wrestling team, led by sophomore co-captains and All-Americans Naomi Henry and Sandy Guerrero, will host East Stroudsburg in the first-ever home wrestling match in NJCU women's wrestling history! The meet begins on Sunday, February 6 at 12 p.m. at the JMAC. Both schools are receiving votes in the national poll.

The BURN Project by Dr. Antoinette Ellis-Williams (Professor, Women & Gender Studies) is a multi-disciplinary project which rethinks and explores the many ways black women experience “Burn” and simultaneously their unique agency to set things on “Fiya” (aka fire) and heal. All viewers are invited to tap into an individual memory of pain and recovery through a personal engagement with the work.

NJCU Counseling Center offers "Let's Talk" Sessions
Let’s Talk provides students with informal, one-on-one confidential consultations to assist students with specific personal concerns (e.g. relationship conflicts, advice regarding a disagreement with a roommate, stress management skills, academic struggles). When necessary, recommendations will be provided. These one-time, 25-minute consultations are not meant to be a substitute for psychotherapy, but rather a meeting with a counselor that is goal-oriented.

The TRiO Learning Community (TLC) Program at New Jersey City University is a federally funded Student Support Services (SSS) program that provides opportunities for academic development, assists students in meeting basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students towards the successful completion of their post-secondary education. Although nationally each program is different, we all share the same purpose: to retain and graduate the students we serve.
