Our Guiding Purpose: We are guided by the academic success of all students. Ultimately, the measures of our success are improvements in students’ persistence, achievement, and graduation rates—particularly students who are the first in their families to go to college and those from groups historically under‐served in higher education.

Friends and colleagues,
As I write this I have a bird's eye view of our new students who are getting to know each other. In the course of an hour, I've watched the vibe change from from hesitancy to a rambunctious group dancing in circles. I am moved to thank all student activities professionals. You do such a great job of creating a welcoming environment for students transitioning to college and it really matters!
As we kick off the 2024-2025 academic year, I'm looking forward to reconnecting with many of you at an upcoming virtual workshop, at a conference, or potentially the curriculum planning retreat this spring. We have some great people and topics in our workshop line-up this year and we are always looking for ideas. If you have an idea or are interested in facilitating a workshop, please reach out. For those of you who are planning to attend the National Learning Community Conference in Chicago this year, look for our session, "A story slam retrospective: 30 years of summer institutes at the Washington Center" - and bring your stories!
We are both excited and relieved to announce that we have a new, redesigned website. As you navigate the website, we would really appreciate your feedback - and if you can't find something, please let us know.

Integrative Learning Curriculum Planning Retreat |
|
|
The Washington Center hosted an integrative learning curriculum planning retreat in partnership with the Washington Learning Communities Collaborative May 9-10. The retreat was attended by 50 learning community practitioners from eight Washington institutions. The retreat allowed institutional teams time to plan and work together, with the support of optional workshops and roundtable discussions on team teaching, integrative assignment design, and guided pathways.

Curriculum Planning Retreats have been one of the longest running programs of the Washington Center and we are happy to reintroduce this program post-pandemic. This event is open to institutions in the state of Washington, regionally, and nationally. Dates and details for the 2025 Integrative Curriculum Planning Retreat coming soon!

Association for General and Liberal Studies |
AGLS encourages participation from faculty, students, staff, and administrators, as well as proposals that relate successful collaborative efforts between two and four-year campuses. Sessions that actively engage the session audience and/or provide usable ‘Monday morning’ ideas and activities are especially encouraged. We pride our conference on providing hands-on experiences for the attendees.
