New protected bike lanes! |
Improved, safer travel for all on Baseline Road with first “tall curbs” in the country |
We’ve heard a clear desire for safer, more comfortable and convenient travel on Baseline Road, no matter how you travel.
As part of our response, we’re the first city in the U.S. to install concrete “tall curbs” — a type of physical bike lane protection. Tall curbs separate the bike lane and vehicle travel lane. They are popular in other North American cities, such as Toronto.
|
The tall curbs are complete! Other ongoing project construction is anticipated to last into November. In 2024, we will begin community engagement and design for further improvements.
|
|
Several of the city’s tall curbs showcase art from a local artist, selected from the city’s mural roster.
“The designs are vibrant, abstract paintings that reflect Colorado’s mountainous landscape along with local native flower and butterfly species,” shared artist Talia Swartz Parsell.
“Each of the barrier sections transitions from morning to night, with the color and light of each painting reflecting this change. My hope was to bring more color, vibrancy and nature back to this concrete corridor and hopefully beautify people’s commute.”

Expect delays in November beginning with rumble strip installation |
The first phase of the safety improvements on the CO 119/The Diagonal is starting with the installation of rumble strips. The project will impact CO 119 from Longmont to Boulder at Foothills Parkway.
Bicyclists are encouraged to avoid the area from Nov. 2-3 and Nov. 13-16 due to lane and shoulder closures. Learn more on the press release.

Boulder advocates for transportation investments |
Community Cycles and Bicycle Colorado co-hosted a e-bike tour with members of the State Transportation Legislative Review Committee, along with the City of Boulder, Boulder Transportation Connections, and Boulder BCycle.
City staff shared information about biking in Boulder, including about local e-bike incentives and efforts toward safer, connected infrastructure.
Along with our partners, our goal was to inform state legislators on the role of e-bikes in a multimodal system, including understanding the impact of previous legislation, and the need to expand investments in safe infrastructure and equitable programs.
