What You Need to Know

Winter Term In-person Instruction: The UO will begin winter term with in-person classes and will continue its layered safety strategies. In a message to the UO community, Provost Patrick Phillips said the decision was based on a number of factors including UO's high vaccination rate, mask requirements, and robust testing program.
Winter Term Safety Reminders: Before returning to campus, please review the COVID-19 guidance and expectations for winter term. They include:
  • Vaccinations are required. Those with exemptions are required to test weekly.
  • Booster shots are required by January 31 or 30 days after you become eligible (see below for details.)
  • Face coverings are required in all indoor spaces, except when alone or while actively eating or drinking.
  • Check for symptoms before coming to campus and stay home if you feel sick.
  • Wash your hands and/or use sanitizer.
  • Testing is available on campus:
  • Mental health and wellness resources are available for all students and staff.
Boosters Required: UO students, faculty, and staff are required to get COVID-19 booster shot by January 31 or 30 days after they become eligible.
  • People over 18 are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster six months after their Pfizer or Moderna second dose, or two months after their Johnson and Johnson dose.
  • Details about the upload process will be coming soon.
  • Because initial vaccination doses become less effective over time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends boosters for those who are eligible to help reduce the likelihood of serious illness. The CDC also states that individuals who have not yet reached booster eligibility do still receive protection from their initial vaccine doses.
Employee Vaccination Reporting Reminder: The deadline for employees to verify their COVID-19 vaccination status or request an exemption is January 14. Employees who haven't already, should fill out this online form and upload a copy of their vaccine card or a medical or religious exemption form. Employees will need all required forms ready to be uploaded before they begin completing the online vaccination requirement form.

COVID-19 Travel Reminders

As you get ready to return to campus, here are a few COVID-19 travel tips from the CDC:
  • Monitor for symptoms different from your normal baseline.
  • Do not travel if you have been exposed to COVID-19, you are sick, if you test positive, or are waiting for COVID-19 test results.
  • Wear a mask over your nose and mouth while traveling especially on public transportation, airplanes, or in large groups.
  • If you are not fully vaccinated, the CDC recommends testing before and after travel.

UO Vaccination Rates

Faculty and Staff: 95.3%
Students: 96.8%
The vaccination rate is updated on the COVID-19 Safety Dashboard every Monday. All UO faculty, staff, and students are required to be fully vaccinated or submit a vaccine exemption and undergo weekly testing. UO vaccination rates are a key measure in becoming a "fully vaccinated" campus under CDC guidelines for higher education.
