Co-Lab Coronavirus Update

A quick update on the operations of the Innovation Co-Lab as we work together to protect our community from the spread of COVID-19.  We realize you are probably getting inundated with closure and cancelation messages, but this one also includes some new things that we're working on.
Our intent through these changing times is to continue to do what we do best, which is engaging our community to explore, create, and learn with technology.  This community may be dispersed across the globe, but we already have quite a few ideas for how to bring us back together (digitally) and continue to support this amazingly creative group in new and wild ways.  So stay tuned.

Co-Lab Studios

The Innovation Co-Lab has 3 studio locations on campus.  Our locations in Lilly Library and Rubenstein Arts Center have already closed with the closure of those buildings.  Our main location in the Technology Engagement Center will be closed to all non-essential staff and faculty starting on Thursday March 19th at 5pm.  If you are currently working on any projects in the space, please make arrangements to pick up your materials before that time.  We will not be clearing any lockers or removing other project work, but the space will be inaccessible until campus resumes normal operations.

If you are a faculty or staff member who needs access to the Co-Lab Studio, please contact us directly at colab-ops@duke.edu.  We will also continue to run Bluesmith jobs for research and medical purposes.  For information about that service contact us at colab-services@duke.edu.  We will not be staffing the space on a schedule, but can make accommodations for access in cases that involve research, medical, or academic support.  The Garage area of the Co-Lab is closed to all users.

Co-Lab Roots

We have cancelled all in-person courses for the remainder of the semester, however our team is busy thinking about how to move some of our Roots programming online and also continue to support our community in new and (hopefully, exciting) ways - more details below!

We currently have 4 classes scheduled for online delivery, which you can sign up for at colab.duke.edu/roots:

Beyond Roots

Beyond our usual Roots classes, we are brainstorming some exciting areas of tech education that make sense to share online, through Instagram, Zoom, Youtube, and beyond.  We’re also engaging with the many creative technologists across the globe that are in the same situation as you, and have a lot of potential knowledge and creativity to share.  Now would be a great time to follow us on Instagram, as we will likely be trying a lot of new things through that platform.
