Dear Parents and Families,
Greetings from New York City, where our campuses are a bit quieter during this Spring Break period. This is an ideal opportunity to provide a mid-semester update with you about life at NYU. The measured rollback of many COVID-19 restrictions has been welcomed by many students, faculty, and administrators and has led to a rise in in-person activities. In the last few weeks, students have gathered together to study for midterms, enjoyed meals with their friends, participated in the many events offered, and hosted community gatherings and fundraisers in response to the challenges impacting our local and global community. We are all excited to see the campus adjust to a new sense of normalcy that balances our overall wellbeing and safety.
Looking ahead, I would like to highlight a number of updates related to our work with parents and families. During our last Thriving at NYU webinar, I discussed our commitment to look at the ways we currently engage with you. This work is ongoing and your input is critical.
As promised, I would like to formally invite you to help shape our parent and family engagement work in the following ways:
Right now, your student is enjoying a well-deserved break after most likely completing their midterm exams. If your student is staying on campus, they can use the
Spring Break Guide as a resource which includes
events happening in the residence halls.
We encourage you to use this time to proactively check-in with your student and ask how things are going. We know that when you extend your usual words of support, this undoubtedly helps sustain them as they return to complete the second half of the semester.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rafael Rodriguez
Associate Vice President and Dean of Students
