MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Yongsun Paik, Ph.D.LMU CIBE is entering into its final year of the four- year grant cycle that began in fall 2018. LMU is one of 15 universities that received this prestigious federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education to help improve global competitiveness of U.S. companies. This fall 2021, we have expanded our support to faculty research and professional development, curriculum development by joining the CIBER Minority Serving Institutions & Community College Consortium (CMCC) and continued building our partnership with the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) by supporting its LA Investment Summit. We have also organized webinars on the impact of language on organizational performance of MNCs as well as on global talent management to celebrate International Education Week. In spring 2022, we look forward to our virtual conferences on global entrepreneurship and global sustainability as part of the International Business Ethics and Sustainability Case Competition. I’d like to thank you for your continued support to LMU CIBE and wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

faculty spotlightAlexander Glosenberg, Ph.D.
LMU Management Assistant Professor Alexander Glosenberg received a CIBE faculty grant for his research, "Testing personal initiative (PI) training among "underdog" entrepreneurs in the United States." In his research, Glosenberg undertook exploratory research to test the viability of using entrepreneurship mindset training to boost the success of partnerships between U.S. corporations and marginalized entrepreneurs (e.g., when entrepreneurs in lower-income settings are part of a corporations’ distribution channel) by facilitating the psychological empowerment of those entrepreneurs. “Based upon results from this project, it seems that entrepreneurs from marginalized backgrounds might more fully be able to take advantage of partnerships with U.S. corporations by having time to reflect upon and hone their entrepreneurial mindset,” he said. internship spotlightFrancis Royer '22
In summer ’21, Frances Royer participated in a CIBE funded internship at the sustainable B2B merchandising company, Coolperx, as a strategic and analytical specialist. A robust startup, Coolperx works with international companies such as Google, T-Mobile, and Microsoft in helping them to reach their sustainability goals and initiatives.
Royer is a marketing major with a minor in psychology. In addition, she is studying in a 4 + 1 program to earn an MS in Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Innovation. Students admitted in a 4 + 1 program intend to immediately enroll in a one-year master’s degree program on a full-time basis after their senior year and take graduate-level courses during their senior year.
Royer gained wide-ranging experience during her internship which included conducting market research, helping to source sustainable and environmentally friendly products, learning about issues surrounding corporate sustainability and climate change, redesigning the company's newsletter, and participating in regular training sessions.
Royer shared that her key takeaway from the experience is to be adaptive and willing to learn. She added, “As a marketing intern at a sustainable company I’ve learned that perhaps the most important part of the business is to stay true to your mission in every aspect of your business.” She continued, “If we are promoting ourselves as a climate-neutral company then every product, partner brand, supply chain, and energy source has to align with our mission and ethical standards.” More
