Announcing the SCA Senior Project
We have exciting news!
Sound Christian Academy is launching a Senior Project, which will be a culmination of a student's time in school capped with a resume-building, career-oriented project to highlight their education.
The Senior Project will feature a paper, a product and a presentation.
Humanities Chair Tom Omli will be running the program. He first started working on Senior Project in 1987 with research and development, culminating in a launch in the 1991-92 school year at Rogers High School in Puyallup. He worked with the program through 1999 before leaving for an administrative position in a neighboring district.
Tom was so well regarded in his Senior Project work he trained teams from Cleveland, Ohio, Syracuse, N.Y., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Pasco, Wash., and Everett, Wash. They also hosted teams for observation from Maine to California to Hawaii.
Student benefits
- Students get to choose something that interests them to integrate into their school work
- Not all students are into academics and this gives them the opportunity to work on a hands-on project
- Past students have received lifetime jobs as a result of their Senior Projects
- Many scholarships were awarded based on Senior Projects
Staff benefits
- Common project that members of the faculty worked on together, improving collegiality in the staff
- Community connections became stronger
- Students have an incentive to work on a school-related project outside of school, which improves the student-teacher relationship
The Senior Project will be required for graduation. More information will be coming out throughout the summer. If you have questions, please reach out to our Senior Project chair Tom Omli.
