In this Stronger Together Update, we share COVID testing news – including a change at the Student Activities Center – and convenient links to important and comprehensive COVID guidance for faculty and staff.

Saliva Testing Is Back at the SAC
Please note that as of this coming Monday, January 31, we will be returning to conducting saliva pooled surveillance testing at the SAC through our provider, Quadrant. Find all the information you need – including how and when to register and how long you’ll need to wait after eating, drinking, toothbrushing, etc. before performing the test – on the newly updated Testing/Screening webpage of our Stronger Together site.

Unlike the nasal swab testing, you will be able to see your results, positive or negative, on the Quadrant ‘Clarifi’ portal. Please make sure your Stony Brook ID number is accurate and that your organization name is defined as Stony Brook University.

Since all of your information will be on your portal, you can use that for travel purposes (i.e., proof of a negative COVID test, if required). All labs vary, but in general it will take two to five days to obtain your PCR COVID test results. These results will be made available to you, on some occasions, even before our COVID Response Teams receive them. Therefore, it is important you understand what a positive or negative result means and how to stay safe

While walk-ins are allowed, we prefer you register through our scheduling tool, also on the Testing/Screening webpage.

Nasal Swab Testing Still Available at the HSC
Please also note that nasal swab testing, if you prefer, will continue to be available to all employees – clinical and non-clinical – at the HSC Galleria. Find details on the Testing/Screening webpage. Employees will continue to receive positive test results within approximately 24 hours, with no notification for negative results.

General Testing Reminders
Testing continues to be a significant tool for all of us to help keep the campus environment safe. Please remember:
  • Continue to test weekly if you are unvaccinated; monthly, according to your last name alphabetical schedule, if you are vaccinated
  • If you have tested positive, do not test at the test center for 90 days
  • Please keep a copy of your test result for compliance purposes
  • You do not need to contact the Health Information Line (HIL) before returning to campus if you are asymptomatic and have completed your duration of isolation.

Faculty/Staff COVID Protocol at Your Fingertips
For your convenience – and to make sure we provide the most up-to-date information in an ever changing environment – please take note of (and bookmark if you like) this link: Faculty and Staff Health Information Line. On it you’ll find important information on what to do if you test positive or were exposed to someone who did, return to the workplace guidance, as well as how to submit proof of your booster vaccination.

In addition to the Student Health Services site, you can now find this information on the Latest Guidance and Info for Faculty and Staff webpages of the Stronger Together site.
