Dear Friend,

The month of August brought with it a new semester and a variety of changes within the Division of Student Experience. I am excited to announce the restructure of our Division, which will help us continue to support students and create increased campus engagement. Please visit this link to review specific details regarding the restructure. Additionally, we reallocated space to provide the Jambar Student Newspaper, and newly-launched Jambar TV, with offices to meet the needs of their growing presence on campus (see photo). To experience first-hand the hard work that student media staff members have put forth over the course of the past several months, check out Jambar TV’s upcoming episode this Friday on YouTube.

Continuing the trend of improving the student experience, Student Counseling Services relocated to an office suite that was recently vacated by Career Services. This new office space allows Student Counseling Services to expand its capacity for individual and group counseling sessions, thereby providing much-needed mental health services for our student demographic.The Division of Student Experience also kicked off Fall Semester with IGNITE and a Week of Welcome programs aimed at setting the educational tone for the year. I would like to personally thank all of those who volunteered their precious pre-term time to assist with move-in, serve as grillers and food runners, and greet students, family members, and friends around campus. These personal acts of kindness are critical in helping students transition to (or back to) YSU, and help establish a sense of belonging. We have a lot of exciting things in store this year that we’d love to share with you. New Jambar
Show Coming!

The Jambar will be adding a show to its news coverage of happenings on and around campus! Starting Friday, August 23rd, the Jambar TV will conduct a half hour long news program hosted on their YouTube channel, and on their website.

The program will take place and be available every Friday at noon. The show will be comprised of four segments, consisting of news, interviews, sports, and arts & entertainment. Be sure to tune in and support this student-run program for all of your YSU news!

STUDENT COUNSELING AND STUDENT WELLNESS

Collaboration to Educate About Substance Abuse and Mental Health

Student Counseling Services has partnered with Campus Recreation, Meridian Health Care, and the Mahoning Valley Mental Health & Recovery Board to increase education and prevention for the campus community surrounding substance abuse and mental health. Through this partnership, an individual will be hired to work with YSU for Recovery, Sober Tailgate, Men's and Women's Health Week, Mental Health Advocacy Day, and other events and outreach. The hope is that the increased awareness and education will assist in reducing the stigma regarding mental health on campus. Similarly, when this position is filled, this individual will collaborate with student organizations and student leaders to foster a culture of well-being.

INTERNAL AUDIT

Anonymous Ethics Hotline

The Office of Internal Audit offers an anonymous reporting hotline for any issues regarding fraud and/or fiscal abuse. This hotline is managed by a 3rd party called Ethics Point. If you would like additional information or would like to file a report, please visit the website. Additionally, Ethics Point also has a toll-free number to call to file a report, the number is (884) 208-1697. Both web and telephone reports are available 24/7.

NEW ON CAMPUS

Kilcawley Center has opened a new place for students to dine on campus! Melt Lab is located in the Hub next to Dunkin and features gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches with different types of breads and toppings. From buffalo chicken to nutella and fruit, the Melt Lab has the perfect grilled sandwich to remind you of the good old days with a new age twist. They are open Monday through Friday from 10:30am–3pm.

Free Memberships for Students

The McDonough Museum of Art, YSU’s Center for Contemporary Art, is offering FREE memberships for YSU students. Visit the Museum to sign up for our email list and pick up your membership gift.
