Let’s get to this week’s updates!

- The Pirates’ athletic season is in full swing, with your cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and volleyball teams competing on the fields and courts. You are all invited to our first home football game of the season to cheer on Coach Austin and our student athletes this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Our fantastic cheer squad will also be there to lead our Pirates to victory. See the full athletic schedule here.

Vaccination Updates (as of September 14, 2021)
- Student vaccination rate: 88.9%
- Faculty vaccination rate: 90.7% (The addition of 16 new faculty hires to the dashboard on Sept. 10, 2021, resulted in an adjustment to the faculty vaccination percentage. Because employment status precedes other information about new hires, the faculty vaccination percentage will remain relatively fluid over the next several days as new faculty complete their orientation.)
- Staff vaccination rate: 82.2%
- University cumulative vaccination rate: 87.9%
- Students, you are very close to reaching our 90% cumulative vaccination rate. As a reminder, once you reach your goal, you will receive a special prize from the Captain—and yes, the prize is above and beyond our weekly Sweet Surprise! What also comes along with a 90% vaccination rate is 1) you will be safer and 2) once the positivity rate in Williamson County declines to a safer level, the Health and Safety Committee will reconsider current policies.
- Student testing happens every Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Robertson Center. Also, the Georgetown public library provides free testing. Be sure to get the result to covidtesting@southwestern.edu by 2:00 p.m. on Friday each week. Only PCR tests are accepted. Visit the Health Center to find other off-campus testing locations.

A HUGE thank you to everyone for keeping our rates so low!

Food Committee
- I’d like to welcome Kolby Byer ’22, Maya Claussen ’22, Teddy Hoffman ’24, Natasha Ndele ’24, and Quon Marion ’25 to the Food Committee. The Food Committee is a task force of students, faculty, and staff who will be working with our food consultant to prepare a request for proposals from food service operators. The committee and the community will have the opportunity to sample food from each vendor when they visit in the spring. An SU vendor will be selected and in place for the fall 2022 semester. Thank you to these five students for your service!

Construction Update
- If you live in Lord apartments, you’ve noticed the improvements, including new landscaping, a sidewalk that connects Maple Street to the new sand volleyball court, and a new patio that includes outdoor seating and a barbeque pit. All construction is scheduled to be complete by the end of September.
- Two dog-walking stations have been added on campus: one on the south side of the Cullen Building and one on the east side of the Turner–Fleming House. Speaking on behalf of my bulldog puppy, Miss Twinkles, we would like to thank our Facilities team.

Upcoming Events
- Join us tomorrow for more fun treats from the Captain from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. And in response to questions my students have asked me, no, I don’t know what the secret treat is because the very secret committee keeps the kind of treat a top secret.
- I held my first weekly walk of the semester yesterday, and it was great seeing early-bird students. I invite everyone to meet me at the Turner–Fleming House every Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. for a leisurely 1.5-mile walk. Following the walk, you are invited to stay and enjoy juice, coffee, and homemade baked treats.
