SNAP recipients may struggle to meet dietary goals, especially in food deserts
|
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the nation’s largest nutrition program, helping 41 million participants afford “nutritious food essential to health and well-being.”
However, a new study by University of Notre Dame researchers, including the founding director of the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society, Nitesh Chawla, found that SNAP participants in low-income households may not be able to meet the nutrition levels set by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA).

The Notre Dame-IBM Technology Ethics Lab is excited to announce the opening of its annual Call for Proposals on the topic “Ethics of large-scale models.” The Tech Ethics Lab welcomes creative proposals from researchers and practitioners that suggest applied solutions to the ethical challenges associated with these models. The deadline to submit applications is February 16, 2024.
