Reminder: Call for papers – abstracts due Saturday, 8 February

If you are planning to submit an abstract of your research for consideration on a panel of presenters at the Practicing History Conference, the deadline is just weeks away. Here is the info you need to submit:

Panel Paper: Give a 10–15-minute presentation on your research as part of a panel of 3-4 students. Students may submit paper proposals individually or as part of a pre-arranged panel. Individual proposals will be grouped into panels by the conference committee. Note: papers do not need to be finished by the submission deadline; only a paper abstract is required.

Elevator Pitch: Give a 90-second pitch about a research project you are interested in, and judges will give you valuable feedback. The best pitches will win cash prizes!

Join History Student Association meetings to befriend other students, chat about history, discuss books, and plan future activities! Meetings will be held in the CTIHB third floor lobby from 4:30-5:30 on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. Snacks will be provided. First meeting is February 5th! READ MORE

It is once again (almost) time for Douglass Day! Douglass Day commemorates the date that Black abolitionist Frederick Douglass celebrated his birthday by inviting communities to gather to transcribe documents in Black United States History.  

This year, the celebration is on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 10-4 at MLIB 1110. Community members can drop in at any time to help us transcribe documents. Participants are welcome to work independently or in small groups. They may bring a laptop, but computers are also available in the library classroom. Throughout the day, participants may enjoy hot and cold beverages. Makaya Caters will serve lunch from 12-2 p.m.
