DLSNC Students Continue to Make the Most of Summer, continued
“The most significant thing I learned was how having a deep understanding of my individual identity will aid me in the college application process and my future career,” said Ruth Tsegaye ‘22 about the virtual program she did at Georgetown. “We had the chance to meet college students and graduates, admissions and financial aid officers, professors, and many more people who gave us tips on how to make the most out of the college experience, especially as minorities.”
Marelynn de Jesus ‘23, completed a virtual program in architecture at Georgia Tech. Marelynn commented, “The fast-paced lessons required a lot of time management skills. Along with a great sense of creativity, which became useful for the final project—creating a building that would apply to our hobbies.”
“Even though everything was online I learned a lot about genetics and got to talk with people from different places like Greece and China,” Dayona Gaither ‘23 shared about her summer pre-college program in genetics at Smith College. “The experiments were interesting, and I got to keep all of the materials they sent, including a microscope.”
Other students who participated in pre-college programs this summer were Gabriela Flores ‘22 (California College of the Arts), Taylor McCollum ‘22 (Georgetown), and Michelle Quintanilla ‘23 (Brown).
