Intro to Coaching: Program Oral Interpretation

Dive deeper into POI coaching in this new NSDA Learn course from esteemed coach Renea Moss. Upon completion of the free course, coaches will be able to:

Explain the purpose, key terms, and general rules of POI to students.
Assist students in finding, refining, and defining an argument for their piece.
Lead students in starting a cutting and shaping a character's look and mannerisms.
Demonstrate the proper way to handle a binder.

As a coach and educator, I like Big Questions because it allows students to discuss big philosophical ideas in a format that all levels of students can attempt. In a time where teachers are constantly told to increase the rigor and broaden the curriculum, this style of debate offers debaters and teachers an opportunity to do both. Your team can earn up to $2,500 when you apply and are approved to host an event at a tournament or against members of your own team. Almost $1.5 million has been awarded to programs since 2016.
