Community Boogies for KFICCC

Toddler Boogie–back in a big way! KFICCC, The Arc Montgomery County's inclusive childcare center, held its highly anticipated community event to great success. The Toddler Boogie Community Fundraiser exceeded expectations by raising $3,660! Proceeds will go towards directly enhancing the children’s learning environment and provide crucial resources to enrich their educational experience.
Those attending the event bid on raffle baskets, decorated cookies, did crafts, played games, ate pizza, and connected with friends both old and new.
KFICCC extends a special recognition to several parents whose dedication was instrumental: Matt and Erika Spence, Christi Garfield, each Classroom Parent Representative, Dylan Rosenthal and the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). Also, a huge 'thank you' to the KFICCC teachers and student volunteers who contributed significantly to the event's success. Congratulations to everyone involved and to Childcare Center Director, Niambi Heyward.

Toddler Mobility Chairs

The Arc Montgomery County's inclusive childcare center, KFICCC, is now the proud owner of two Toddler Mobility Trainers (TMT). The donated chairs are designed for children who have difficulty moving independently. The TMT comes from global non-profit Tikkun Olam Makers, which works with engineering communities to create affordable and open-source technologies to help people with disabilities. Accenture partnered with Tikkun Olam Makers, and as part of the Accenture Metro DC Day of Service, volunteers helped put together the TMTs. Volunteers signed their names, and Childcare Center Director Niambi Heyward said, “There was a buzz of excitement in the air with regards to the building of the Toddler Mobility Trainers."
KFICCC has already given one of the TMTs to a child and Heyward says the child's mom was "moved to tears".
The Arc Montgomery County thanks both Accenture and Tikkun Olam Makers for their generosity!
Garden of Lights

Garden of Lights is Back!

Garden of Lights is returning, to transform Wheaton's Brookside Gardens into a magical winter wonderland. If you are looking for something to do, and get into the holiday spirit at the same time, this is the event. Garden of Lights is a one-half mile, outdoor, walk-through exhibit of twinkling lights and glimmering one-of-a-kind displays.
Paths are accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. Tickets are $10/person and are only available to purchase online. Children 4 and under are free.

Creating More Accessible Bathrooms

More and more adult-size changing tables are appearing across the state of Maryland for adults with toileting support needs.
Maryland Matters reports many families hesitate to go on outings because of the lack of accessible restrooms. Now, Maryland is among a handful of states that have taken steps to require adult changing tables in public buildings. The changing tables are 6 feet long and can be lowered and raised with a handheld controller wired to an electric motor. When not in use, the table folds up against the wall.
