Children's Book Drive: The Staff Council Outreach Committee is partnering with Lead to Read KC to host a campus-wide children’s book drive through Oct. 8. Last year, UMKC collected more than 200 books, and this year's goal is even higher. Book drop-off locations: Miller Nichols Learning Center (south entrance) and Administrative Center (first- and second-floor entrances).

Volunteer on Oct. 29: Join the Outreach Committee on Oct. 29 from noon to 1 p.m. UMKC staff volunteers will be paired one-on-one with elementary school students to read a specially selected book together. Each child will take home their own copy of the book — and you’ll leave knowing you made a difference. Deadline to register is Oct. 10.

Join UMKC at the Kansas City Zoo for Boo at the Zoo on Oct. 25-26. Staff volunteers will hand out candy and UMKC goodies to trick-or-treaters. Free zoo admission is included, and you can explore before or after your shift. Sign up by Oct. 20.

Donate blood to save lives. Staff Council encourages participation in the Community Blood Center drive on Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Swinney Recreation Center North Lobby. Register on the UMKC Community Blood Center website.

The Fall 2025 Wellness Series will be held Nov. 7, offering UMKC staff opportunities to build community, de-stress and explore new approaches to wellness. Activities include light breakfast and crafting in the Health Sciences Building and Miller Nichols Library, along with five virtual wellness presentations throughout the day.
