Integrating Physical Computation, AI, and Big Observations to Advance Hydrology and Earth Sciences IACS Seminar Speaker: Dapeng Feng, Stanford University | March 27 at 1:00 p.m. in the IACS Seminar Room. The rapid growth of observational data presents unprecedented opportunities to enhance both the predictability and mechanistic understanding of Earth systems. However, fully harnessing big Earth data needs computational frameworks that bridge the gap between physics-based models and machine learning. In this talk, the speaker will first demonstrate how AI methods can significantly improve the prediction of environmental systems.
Join the C4E’s workshop on PFAS chemicals on March 28 Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are chemicals that can be found in the environment in many forms, including water, soil, food, etc. The goal is for faculty and students to review environmental health risks, effects on wildlife, etc. to discuss possible research opportunities and solutions. The workshop is from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Institute for Advanced Computational Science (IACS) seminar room.
Geology Open Night: Extraterrestrial Materials are Out of this World Friday, March 28 | 7:30 p.m. | Earth and Space Sciences, Room 001. In this talk, Paul Northrup, research professor in the Department of Geosciences, will explore extraterrestrial materials: meteorites, interplanetary dust, comet tails, and samples retrieved by space missions.
