Tolo Dance Tickets
WHS “Teen Beach Tolo – Bikers vs. Surfers”

This year the theme is "Teen Beach Tolo – Bikers vs. Surfers" and takes place on Saturday, April 2 from 8pm-11pm at the WHS Commons!
- Tickets are on sale March 28-April 1 before school (7:50-8:20a), during Options, lunches, and after school (3:20-3:50p) at the WHS Cashier’s or Main Office, with debit/credit, cash, or check payable to WHS:
$15 w/ASB,
$20 w/o ASB & non-WHS Guests* - Tickets will also be on sale at the door for $25 (WHS students ONLY)
- Fines MUST be paid or cleared to purchase dance tickets!
- All students must have picture ID to enter the dance!
- Students are expected to comply with current District, State, and Department of Health COVID protocols.
*If WHS students want to invite a guest from another school, ONE guest is allowed per WHS student. Please plan ahead, as a completed Non-WHS Guest Authorization Form (with the guest’s principal’s signature and a WHS Admin signature) is required for each guest to purchase the $20 per guest ticket by 2nd lunch on Friday, April 1.
Guest forms will be available outside the ASB ticket window, at the Main Office, on the WHS website, or linked in the bio of @woodinville_asb Instagram.
Tolo FAQs
Who asks who?
Traditionally, Tolo is a girls-asks-guys dance, but students can ask anyone they want, friends or a date or go solo!
What do students wear?
This year's Tolo theme is Bikers vs. Surfers, so students pick one and go all out in their costume. Outfit ideas will be posted on the WHS ASB Instagram soon. Please remember that students must follow the dress code, and NO SWIMSUITS!
What does Tolo looke like?
This year's Tolo will be indoors in the Commons with a DJ, food trucks, and games. Tolo is for all grades. Park in the student lot and make your way to the main entrance.
What about masks?
Masks are optional.
Please note: Transportation and before/after dance activities are not provided or sponsored by Woodinville High School or the Northshore School District. This includes any transportation/events including, but not limited to, limos, party buses, and boat excursions.

Senior Class Meeting @ Advisory, March 30!
Seniors! Mark your calendars. There will be a Senior Class Meeting during Advisory on Wednesday, March 30 in your Advisory classrooms to learn about graduation, the Senior Timeline, Grad Night, and preliminary information about the June 14 Commencement Ceremony!
Seniors will also make nominations for the student-selected Class of 2022 Commencement speaker during this meeting!

Class of 2022 Grad Night!
This is a fun and safe way for Seniors to celebrate graduation with their class! We are excited to offer this long-standing tradition for the Woodinville High School Class of 2022!
Grad Night activities will be operating under applicable State, County, and Public Health Covid protocols as well as requirements of the venues.
This celebration is an all-night action-packed party for our Seniors that will start around 9 pm on graduation night, June 14th through around 5 am on June 15th.
The new graduates will board chartered buses at a downtown Woodinville location (near AMC Lowes). The plan is to go to two different surprise venues where they can safely gather and celebrate together. There will be plenty of entertainment, food, snacks, drinks, and planned activities. Chaperones and security will be on hand to ensure a fun and safe environment.
Ticket prices will range from $175 - $195 per student depending on when payment is received. This price is inclusive of all transportation, food, activities, and entertainment. Financial assistance is available.
Once you register, you will receive multiple emails from the date of registration until the event date so please look out for them. You can also use the registration to volunteer for the evening.

Final NHS Hours Submission DUE Friday, March 25th, at 11:55pm!
Final NHS Community Service Hours are due, Friday, March 25th, at 11:55pm.
Students need to submit all 25 hours (including minimum of 10 hours of in-school service).
- Multiple Community Service logs may be used to complete this requirement, if necessary. Please keep a log of the hours you turned in as you will not be able to access the hours previously submitted.
- All community service forms must include signature and/or email and phone number of the coordinating adult. Applications without signatures/emails will not be accepted.
- All students are responsible for scanning/photographing any necessary documents to upload, and documents must be PDF, JPG, or PNG files.
- The library has a scanner that students can use.

Registration for next year, 2022-23!
Counselors started the individual 1:1 meetings with the juniors this week. The purpose is to confirm their course requests, check their grad status and align their transcript with their post grad plan.
Counselors will meet with sophomores the week of 3/21 and freshmen the week of 3/28.

Daddy Daughter Dance 2022 "Candy Land"
The WHS Class of 2023 is so excited to announce that Woodinville High School is resuming the tradition of the Daddy Daughter Dance this year!
The dance will take place on Saturday, April 23, from 6-8 p.m. It will be held at Woodinville High School in the Commons, and will feature live music, games and activities, food, and dancing! The theme is going to be Candy Land (like the board game) and will feature a variety of fun activities and dancing for dads and daughters alike!
Suggested age for daughters: 5-12, but all kids will be welcome!

Spring State Testing 2021-22:
Mark Your Calendars
In the spring of the 2021-22 school year, current 10th-grade students are scheduled to participate in Smarter Balanced ELA and math state testing, as has been the standard practice, as an avenue of fulfilling the state's ELA and math graduation pathway requirement. Additionally, any 11th-grade or 12th-grade students who have not yet fulfilled the state ELA and/or math graduation pathway requirement will have the opportunity to re-take the ELA and/or math Smarter Balanced test. Juniors and Seniors who participated in Fall Retakes will be contacted directly, if they still have not met the State requirement. Juniors will also participate in the state WCAS science exam for federal accountability purposes.
Students must be present on each designated testing day or will need to participate in a make-up session for the missed section of the exam.
Students must bring their fully-charged district-device when participating in state testing, along with compatible earbuds/headsets. (Headsets will be provided for students who do not bring personal earbuds/headsets).

SBAC English Language Arts (ELA) Testing

WHS students earn 1st and 2nd place at Pacific Northwest Japan Bowl!
Congratulations to Mizue Sunahara and her Japanese students who earned 1st and 2nd place at the virtual regional Pacific Northwest Japan Bowl on Saturday, March 5!!
Japan Bowl is a competition where high school students compete with their knowledge about Japanese language and culture. From WHS, two teams took part in the competition for Level 2 and Level 3.
- Level 2 Team: Simon Smith and Julia Kary – Earned 2nd place
- Level 3 Team: Easen Houng and Jacob Kim - Earned 1st place and will go to the National “Digital Japan Bowl” April 21-22!
This week, Mizue Sunahara, went to the consulate and picked up the medals for Easen Houng and Jacob Kim, who will go attend the Digital National Japan Bowl on April 21st and 22nd.

BAM Virtual Field Trip!
On Friday, March 18 eighteen WHS students participated in a virtual field trip, “BAM” (Blacks at Microsoft – Minority Student Day 2022). We had 18 students in the library listening/actively participating in group discussions with Microsoft employees, as well listening to keynote speaker Actress, Producer, and star of Black-ish show Marsal Martin.
Students learned about bios of Black entrepreneurs as young as 8 years old, participated in group discussions regarding what they were passionate about in life, and the power of believing in themselves, as well creating a personal mission statement!

NSD Updated Late Work Policy - Second Semester 2021-22
Grading is a complex topic connected to the heart of our work around teaching and learning, and recently the district and teacher’s union agreed upon some changes with regards to late work. Please note the A, B, C, D, & NC (No Credit) grading system has not changed, just the procedure for collecting late assignments.
To address the understandings and teacher workload concerns surrounding late work, the following parameters and strategies have been developed:
When an assignment is turned in more than one week after the conclusion of a specific unit of study, teachers will review the late assignment and:
- Provide a “meets standard” grade of 85% for those assignments that reasonably meet the communicated standards; or
- Provide a “does not meet standard” grade of 60% for those assignments that do not reasonably meet the communicated standards; and
- Provide feedback on the work.
Late assignments will be accepted and graded up until 10 school days before the end of a quarter or semester.
By the way, teachers who have established grading practices that provide students with more opportunities to submit late work without penalty than required by these baseline parameters are welcome to continue following those practices, so it is always best to communicate directly with the classroom teacher.

Student Justice Conference- Permission slips due on Monday 03/21
If you are interested in attending the Student Justice Conference (information below) on Friday, March 25, permission slips are due to Ms. Kia (either email or hard copy to the College & Career Center) by Monday, March 21. The Northshore School District Racial and Educational Justice Department is announcing our Student Justice Conference for high school students in Northshore. This conference will be held on Friday, March 25 from 9:45 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. at Cascadia College.

WHO CAN ATTEND: This conference is designed for Northshore School District high school students.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the Student Justice Conference is to build space for Northshore’s high school students to celebrate their intersectional identities, build community and collaborate with one another, grow their knowledge and understandings about various forms of justice, meet and work with educators and community partners, and learn more about various higher education opportunities.
THEMES: identity, collaboration, education, leadership, justice, and intersectionality
BRIEF CONFERENCE OUTLINE: During the conference, students will hear from keynote speaker Christopher Emdin, Ph.D.; attend two workshop sessions of their choice that will be led by educators, community members, and UW Bothell students; learn about higher education options, opportunities, resources, and supports from UW Bothell and Cascadia College students and faculty; and have the opportunity to take a guided campus tour of UW Bothell and Cascadia College.
LOGISTICS: Lunch and bus transportation will be provided. This will be an excused absence for all students who attend. Students are still responsible for work missed due to absence.
*** Students must complete a permission packet, which includes a permission slip, photo release form, and dietary restriction form. Students visit the Racial and Educational Justice Department webpage to download the permission packet and get it signed by their parent/guardian.

| Northshore Speaks April 7th @5pm
The Northshore School District will host Northshore Speaks, an evening of original student spoken word poetry, on Thursday, April 7 at 5:00 p.m. The event is currently scheduled to be held on Northshore’s Virtual Stage.
To be considered for the Northshore Speaks event, Northshore students must submit original spoken word poems using this form by midnight on Sunday, March 6, 2022. If an entry is selected, District Communications staff will connect directly with the student and their family. Students will need their parent/guardian to complete the Northshore Speaks participation form.
In honor of National Poetry Month, some spoken word entries will be highlighted on the District’s Facebook page in the weeks leading up to the event. Information on how to attend this inspiring evening designed to connect, reflect and hear diverse perspectives from our student community will be shared at a later date. The event is suitable for Northshore families.

Safety: Remind your students...
As a community, we hear across the nation, in our state, and even locally about students, when off campus, being approached for various reasons by individuals they do not know. Some of the reasons may be legitimate, but at times could be questionable. Our students are inclined to help people and at times may have their guard down during these possible encounters, so we are providing a friendly reminder to families to discuss and share with your student the importance of being alert when approached by individuals they do not know when out and about in the community.

| Attention Parents/Guardians of Students Who May Have Covid-19 or Have Tested Positive
(Please go through these three checks daily!)
- IF a student has ANY symptoms consistent with Covid-19 (headache, stuffy/runny nose, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of taste/smell, nausea/vomiting, fever) the student should STAY HOME!!
- IF you have said to yourself, “It’s just a cold.” The student should STAY HOME!! Symptoms of a cold are the same as those for Covid-19. Please don’t have your student come to school. Plan for your student to get tested as soon as possible and submit test results to the WHS Nurse, Jennifer Gardner.
- IF a student has tested positive for Covid-19, please opt out of batch testing for 90 days. If this is not done, the student’s test results will most likely come back positive!
WHS Positive Batch Test Result - What Would Next Steps Be?
If your student is identified as having a positive result from a batch test taken at Woodinville High School, each student and parent/guardian will be notified. This would not mean they have COVID-19. It simply means someone in their batch of people had tested positive. To determine if your student is COVID negative, an individual confirmatory test will be required.
- Any fully vaccinated person in a positive batch does not have to quarantine but does have to get a confirmatory negative test.
- Any unvaccinated person in a positive batch does have to quarantine and has to remain in quarantine until they receive a confirmatory negative test.
Common questions:
Where and when is testing?
Confirmatory PCR testing for vaccinated or unvaccinated students can happen at:
1) Pop Keeney Stadium located at 9809 NE 188th St, Bothell, WA 98011. You Would Need to Register for a specific time. The registration link would be provided by Mr. Richardson upon notification.
OR
2) During the school day at WHS.
OR
3) Private health care provider.
After the test, results will be emailed to the address provided at check-in. Results are expected to be in the portal 24 hours after the lab receives the test. If more than 72 hours has passed and you have not received an email with your student’s results, you can call Assistant Principal Craig Richardson to see if the results are available. (Please note it is taking up to 3 days to get results.)
Will I be charged for the test?
No, the confirmatory PCR test is free.
What do I need to bring for the test?
Those being tested will be asked for their name, date of birth, email address where results will be sent, and a student ID card, if available.
What if I don’t want my student to have a confirmatory test?
In the absence of a negative test, there is a mandatory 14-day quarantine for those who are unvaccinated before returning to in-person learning. However, there is no requirement your student take the confirmatory test provided by the District. You may elect to have a PCR confirmatory test by your health care provider or at a local clinic or pharmacy (e.g. – Walgreens) within three days. Vaccinated students and staff will need to provide proof of taking a confirmatory test within three days of being informed that they were in a positive batch.
The District will accept these outside tests if the following information is shown: student’s name, date of the test, result of test and the document identifies the test provider. Rapid antigen tests are not accepted at this time.
What if my student is fully vaccinated?
Fully vaccinated means both doses and the two-week curative process for Moderna and Pfizer or one dose of Johnson & Johnson and the same two-week curative process. Proof of vaccination will be required to avoid quarantining until confirmatory testing. You will need to notify your school that your student is fully vaccinated. Be prepared to provide proof of your student being fully vaccinated to Nurse Nurse Jennifer Gardner jgardner2@nsd.org.

| Weather & Emergency Information
Emergencies and weather-related problems can alter school schedules and affect bus transportation for students. Families will receive a telephone message from the district if there is a change to the school schedule. If no schedule change information is posted, schools and buses are on their regular schedules.

| Attendance & Early Dismissals
Our student day is from 8:20 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. and WHS expects all students to attend school every day. Below are a few highlights of our attendance policy and procedures:
- Absences must be excused within two (2) school days of the absence or students will be assigned progressive discipline.
- Ten hours of excused and/or unexcused absences in a semester in a given class may result in going through the Attendance Validation process.
- When a student accumulates three (3) or more days of unexcused absences it will result in a conference with administration.
- If a student misses more than 15 minutes of class, it is considered an absence
- If a student requires an early dismissal, the student needs to come to the Attendance Office before school or during Options with a parent/guardian signed request. We are no longer accepting phone calls or emails for early dismissal to limit classroom interuptions.
- Students who arrive late to school (both excused and unexcused) must check in at the Attendance Office for a pass before proceeding to class.

When a family is in crisis and normal household activities are disrupted, students experience distress that affects their attendance, coursework and classroom behavior. NSF's Basic Needs Aid Fund allows families to stock up on groceries or fill the car with fuel so that they can direct their energy where it is most needed: finding a permanent solution to the situation at hand (https://www.northshoreschoolsfoundation.org/request-support/#basicneedsaid).
Apply for Funds
For WHS students, contact Counselor and CARE Team member Sarah Brenner at sbrenner@nsd.org and/or your student’s school counselor or grade-level administrator to describe the temporary challenge or circumstance and request support. All NSF funding requests must come from an approved school staff member.
The NSD staff member will then submit your request.
Foundation leadership will review the request within 5 days and contact the NSD staff that submitted the request with details.
