Back-to-Campus Technology Updates for Faculty and Staff
Course Preparation Assistance Available
Preparing for Learning Space Use
- Please visit your learning space ahead of time to plan how best to use classroom technology this fall, including multiple ways to use whiteboards. General Purpose Classrooms will open to faculty beginning Monday, August 16, however, department stewarded spaces may require additional access.
- The L.A. County Department of Public Health no longer requires physical distancing and reduced classroom capacities which will allow instructors, if they choose, to utilize interactive pedagogies including cooperative learning, team projects, and field trips. Currently, public health guidelines require the use of masks while indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
- Learning Spaces are fully furnished, cleaned and operational. If you have any questions about a particular learning space, please email classroom@lmu.edu
for assistance.
- Many classrooms have been upgraded to enable a microphone for amplification. In testing, a microphone is not needed in the vast majority of our classrooms, even with speaking with a mask. However, if you find you need a microphone, you may check one out from ITS. If you need any support planning the best use of your space, please contact your Instructional Technologist.
- Learning spaces are equipped with a movable HD webcam with stereo microphone to enable Zoom or Classroom Capture (Echo360).
Back-to-Campus Technology Updates As LMU's campuses return to on-site instruction in the fall 2021 semester, Information Technology Services provides essential information and recommendations to help make the transition as seamless as possible.
Computers:
- For those who brought their work computer home, please bring it (and all of your necessary peripherals, cables, etc.) back to campus as early as possible to set up, plug in, and allow enough time for ITS to assist when necessary.
- Windows computers will most likely need to have some security updates applied. When your computer is back on the university network, any updates will be automatically installed and you will be prompted to reboot -- please do so to ensure a safe and secure network. Note: This reboot process may take a while; please ensure you have enough time to complete the process.
- For Apple users, software updates are regularly sent to your computer; if you see an update, please apply it.
- Your computer will also be scanned for any viruses or potentially dangerous malware -- this process will happen in the background and should not affect the normal operations on your machine.
Wireless:
- If your mobile device fails to connect to LMU-Wireless when you are back on campus, you will need to "forget" the WiFi connection and then reconnect. Instructions may be found in this Knowledge Base article. It is also possible that you may need to re-accept our security certificate (Westchester/Playa Vista cert is "zephyrus.lmu.edu" and LLS's cert is "boreas.lls.edu").
Additional Reminders:
- If you have received a loaner computer from ITS, you will be contacted directly, as you will need to return it as soon as possible to prepare for the fall semester.
- As you develop your work schedule and on-campus environment for the fall semester, please contact your manager or Department Chair/Dean to discuss any additional technology purchases you may need.
- Approved technology accessories may be purchased directly through Workday. Please continue to use the ITS ServiceNow Service Catalog for all other
technology purchases.
Library Access (August 2021) Starting this month, the William H. Hannon Library is ramping up re-opening plans in preparation for students and faculty to return in the fall. In addition to expanded hours and café services, access to technology equipment, physical collections, and other circulation services will resume. More details can be found here.
