Hi All, As we close out April, I continued to learn about volunteering through attending and teaching at the National Extension Conference on Volunteerism last week. The evaluation team taught a session on the Thriving Evaluation, communicating results, and putting it into action. In addition, I was able to attend several other sessions during the conference. I wanted to share some takeaways with you. As I was attending a session on Belonging, which is part of our Essential Elements, I was reminded that our longtime families in 4-H found their belonging when they joined. The conversation was a reminder to think about what we are doing to help others feel like they belong, which is especially true after this time with Covid. Another session held discussion about remembering why youth are in the 4-H program. It is really about helping them Thrive, along with improving our program quality. We need to ignite their sparks, create the belonging, relationships with caring adults, challenging their growth through expectations, and further youth adult partnerships by working with youth in a mutually respectful environment. We should be focusing on Thrive throughout the youth's involvement and remember that the Fair is a part of the program. It is really a chance to Celebrate the youth learning that takes place in the 4-H program all year round. Have a great beginning of May!
