Two students recognized for excellence in Distance Education

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Distance Learning Center is pleased to announce Gary Pihlaja and Travis Spaeth as the winners of the 2018 Dawn Drake Excellence in Distance Education Scholarship. Pihlaja and Spaeth will each receive $500 to help with their tuition expenses. Learn more about each winner below, or read the full press release. You can also look for your own scholarship opportunity on our scholarships page.

On the other side of the world, Spaeth spends his days working as an environmental engineer on the island of Saipan. Saipan is the largest and most populated island of the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. commonwealth archipelago located in the western Pacific Ocean. “Saipan is like the poor man’s Hawaii,” Spaeth joked.
