1 Peter 5: 8-11
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

“Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise him all creatures here below.” One of the earliest songs I remember in worship is The Doxology. The word doxology comes directly from two Greek words meaning “glory” and “word.”

Peter was big on doxologies. On Sunday at Tallowood we will study his first one found in 1 Peter 4:11. In chapter 5, he praises God again. This doxology is a little more comprehensive. As the early believers resisted the devil, they would endure the sufferings that other believers endured. Peter means suffering for the sake of Christ through persecution. Thankfully, he offered a powerful promise to the persecuted: "The God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast.”

We praise the God of all grace, who offers us his unmerited favor. He has called us to eternal glory in Christ Jesus. God sees our suffering. He himself will personally restore us. God will make us strong, firm, and steadfast. Isn’t that an amazing promise? No wonder he praises God: To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.

Let's join the praise! "Praise him above you heavenly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost."

Father, let the doxology echo in our souls today. Make us an alleluia from head to toe. Let us live to bring you praise. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
