Exodus 40:34-38
Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.  Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;  but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted.  So the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.
New International Version (NIV)
What has God promised you?  I spoke with a new friend recently who said he could not wait to see his mansion in heaven.  Heaven will surely be an amazing place.

What is the greatest promise in all of scripture?  Is it the promise of God’s presence?  How many times does God say to his people, “I will be with you”?

At one point God became so frustrated with the Israelites and their idolatry that he told Moses to go on without him.  Moses prevailed in prayer saying, “If you don’t go with us, don’t let us go anywhere.”

God kept his promise to the Israelites.  He revealed his presence to the Israelites as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.  When they finished the tent of meeting, God filled it so full with his glorious presence that Moses could not enter.  In those days God was their guide.  When God moved, they moved.  When God stayed they stayed put.

This pattern of following God leads right into the New Testament.  Jesus came down to earth and as he called his disciples said, “Follow me.”  One advantage of following Jesus is that we get to experience his abiding presence.  God keeps all of his promises to us.  How would you live this day if you knew that all day long God was with you?  Live that way.  It is true.

Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for the promise of your abiding presence.  Let us live our lives with you all day long.  We pray that there would be nothing between our souls and the Savior today.  Keep us close we pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
