Have you ever prayed for daylight? Nights can last forever. St. John of the Cross wrote about the dark night of the soul. Have you experienced that? Perhaps you are there today.
Paul's cruise across the Adriatic was not as fun as we might imagine. He and his companions had been fighting a ferocious storm for fourteen days. They sensed they were getting close to land. Fearing catastrophe, they put down four anchors and prayed for daylight.
As we face our own storms, what anchors can we put out to slow down the chaos? The writer of Hebrews says our hope in Christ is an anchor for our souls (Hebrews 6:19).
Lauren Daigle wrote a helpful song during the pandemic, reminding us we will be ok. The words are, "You're going to be ok. The Sun will keep on rising in it's old familiar way, and every little thing will be ok." For all who pray for sunrise, this offers hope. More constant than the sun is our faithful God who sometimes calms the storm and sometimes calms us, his children in the storm.
