Acts 8:30-31
32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:
“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
33 In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth.”
34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

New International Version (NIV)
Who is in the details? I know you have heard the expression, “The devil is in the details.” Well, he wants to be. Left to his devices, he runs amuck in our lives. But trust me when I say God is in the details. God is ordering our steps today. Ready or not we are on GST, God’s standard time. Wherever you go today, the risen Lord Jesus has gone before you. The Holy Spirit is working in the lives of the people you encounter today. Be an instrument of his grace.

Philip found the treasurer of Kandake the Queen of Ethiopia reading from Isaiah 53. Coincidence? I think not. This eunuch would have no descendants. He turned to a centuries-old passage about a man who was slaughtered like a lamb, and left no descendants. About whom was Isaiah, the prophet writing? God gave him a guide in Philip. Philip started in that passage and told him the good news about Jesus.

Years ago, the leader of the “seeker-service” movement was asked, “Why are you now quoting the Bible so often in your sermons?  Aren’t you concerned you will run the seekers off?” He answered, “People are so hungry for truth, they will even believe the Bible.” All around us today are people who are looking for life. They may be searching in all the wrong places. We who know about Jesus must point them to Jesus. Their future hangs in the balance. Trust this:  the story of Jesus is good news for everybody we know. Our world of bad news has never needed Jesus more!

Pray with me:
Father, thank you for working in our lives and the lives of others around us today. Put us where you want us to be with the people you want us to love. Send us to the people that nobody else wants so that we may love them in your name until they are made whole. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
