September 4:  It's Going to Be A Great Year!
A Back to School Blessing
"Lord God, as we start this year, we ask your blessing upon us.
Help us to make new friends, and to support one another in our learning.
Help us each to do our best – in teaching, in learning, in trying new things, and in learning how to grow from our mistakes.
Most of all, Lord, in all we do, let our thoughts, words and actions show that we love you, that we love each other and that we love ourselves.
In the power of your Spirit… Guide us Lord."
Welcome Back, Dragons!

Lower School (K-2) Author Visit and Book Order
Author and Illustrator Abby Hanlon is coming to St. Michael's School on Tuesday, September 20th! She is visiting in celebration of the latest book in her Dory Fantasmagory series, Dory Dory Black Sheep, and will be speaking to our K-2nd graders. Our local bookshop, bbgb, is bringing her to us and offering the opportunity to purchase a signed book.

You may purchase autographed books for your child on bbgb's website at bbgbbooks.com/book-buzz. You will receive a 15% discount when you use coupon code stm15. At check-out, choose school delivery, then select St. Michael's Episcopal School and indicate your child's name, teacher and to whom the book(s) should be signed.  (Please note that you may purchase books even if your child's grade is not attending.)
Please place your order by Wednesday, September 14th. You may call bbgb with any questions at 804.353.5675.
Fifth Grade LEGO Robotics Organizational Meeting
Lego Robotics season is upon us! There will be a FIFTH grade organizational meeting from 3:05-3:45 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, in the Bon Air campus library.
During this meeting, we will discuss the logistics of the LEGO Robotics season and give students the opportunity to sign up to participate.
Eighth Grade Camping Trip
The Eighth Grade will head to Camp Westview on the James in Goochland, VA on September 15 and 16 for the annual Eighth Grade Camping Trip.  Packing lists and further details will be announced shortly.
A parents' meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 13th from 6-7 p.m. to discuss the trip and last minute details.  We look forward to a good time away as we begin the eighth grade's final year at St. Michael's!
Let's Be Good Neighbors: Please Drive Carefully
As both of our campuses are in residential neighborhoods, thank you for driving slowly and carefully as you drive to and from School.
Carpool Placards
A friendly reminder to place carpool nameplates on your front passenger visor facing traffic. This visual cue helps faculty call for the students and keeps the carline moving swiftly. We also invite families to make their own placards for extra drivers.
Say Cheese! School Picture Day Plan
•   Lower School pictures will be taken on Tuesday, September 13.
•   Middle School pictures will be taken on Wednesday, September 14.

Boys Lacrosse Fall Clinics (Gr. 3-8)
Due to interest in an expanded LAX clinic program, St. Michael's is holding free Boys' lacrosse clinics for our students in grades 3-8 starting on Wednesdays running through through October at the Middle School. The first clinic is this Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Middle School field. No need to sign up, just show up!
The sessions are well-suited for new and experienced players alike and will be an informal and low-stress environment for those boys who would like to give lacrosse a try. We will focus on both individual and game fundamentals and adjust our on field activities and working groups based on the number of attendees, skill levels, and especially age.
For the first session, a mouthguard is needed for all participants but a full set of equipment/protective gear is NOT necessary. We will have a few sticks available to borrow for the evening. Depending on the turnout in subsequent sessions, we plan on going to live drills and short games at which time the protective equipment will be needed. If your son has equipment, please bring it and expect to wear it at all sessions.

SPEAK UP 5K Run

In keeping with fostering student social and emotional wellness at St M, we'd like to share an opportunity with our students and families to participate in the third annual Richmond SpeakUp5k taking place on Saturday, September 10th at 9 a.m. at Byrd Park. Runners and walkers will enjoy beautiful scenery as they complete the 3.1-mile course. This race is the signature event of the SpeakUp5k Race Series. It serves to fulfill Cameron Gallagher’s dream of hosting a 5k in her community to cultivate understanding and awareness for those suffering from teenage depression and anxiety. This is a fun-filled event for the whole family with music, food, and vendors.

Interested families may click the Join an Existing Team link and and scroll to find St. Michael’s School (which is our team name). We need a minimum of five racers to qualify for a team and, of course, parents are welcome to race as well.
