Magic Dragon Day 2021: Kindergarten and First Grade

Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Parents,

We all look forward each year to Magic Dragon Day, one of the School’s oldest and most treasured traditions. Though our celebration this year will look different from years past in respect of COVID-19 social distancing and group guidelines, we are hopeful your children and family will enjoy the daily Blue and White activities planned throughout the week. The highlight of the week’s events will be an all-school picnic on Friday, April 30, and the Maypole dances by the kindergarten and first grade that day. Details on the week’s activities will be shared with all later this week.

Maypole Details: Kindergarten and First Grade on FRIDAY, APRIL 30

●      Kindergarten students will perform the Maypole at 12:15 p.m. in the Blue Loop.
  • Kindergarten parents (2 adults per child) are invited to attend.
  • Parents are welcome to bring a bag lunch and stay after your kindergarteners perform and eat lunch with them outdoors. Students may either leave after lunch with their parents or remain with their teachers in the classroom for the remainder of the school day.
  • Middle School students will be in attendance.

●      First Grade students will perform the Maypole at 8:30 a.m. in the Blue Loop.
  • First Grade parents (2 adults per child) are invited to attend. Please plan to arrive near the end of carpool time, drop your students, and join us for a first grade parent coffee before the Maypole dance.
  • Lower School students will be in attendance.

●      Dress attire for both grades/classes:
  • Girls - White shorts, Magic Dragon Day t-shirts (Blue/white polka-dot hair bows and white gloves will be provided for them by the School.)
  • Boys - Khaki shorts, Magic Dragon Day t-shirts
  • Appropriate shoes for skipping
  • As we have 80 children dancing in the Maypole dances and the dances occurring during the school day, we have made the dress code more manageable than children changing in and out of dress clothes in the classrooms -- without parent assistance.
  • Parking details will be sent out closer to the date

Many thanks to each of you who so willingly signed up on your class calendars to help with field games and specific Maypole activities (head garlands, etc.).  While we have had to modify many of our original plans due to COVID safety protocols, we are excited for a week of Magic Dragon Day-inspired fun for all!

As we continue to virtually celebrate many of our traditions and programs, let us be ever mindful of all the changes and challenges we have faced together and be grateful for the safety and health enjoyed by all.  Thank you for your understanding and patience!  We are a Blue and White team together!
Sincerely,
The Magic Dragon Day Team
